BALKANS
Authentic pasta in Albania, each for 3€, what a steal!!!! The best is the Gorgonzola pasta with spinach and walnuts. So good we had to come back again for the same dish. The other we had was truffle mushroom pasta. Nice but light.
We had tortilini pasta with 4 cheese and tafa dish (beef stew with vegetable and covered with Naan) , traditional dishes of Kosovo. We enjoyed the sumptuous dishes a lot and especially the breeze from the river and the view of the mosque from the distance. One of our most memorable meals in the Balkans, and a proper sit down dinner near the riverfront for just 6€ each? (less than sgd 10?) Unbelievably, good.
[Mostar] highly recommends this!! Pljeskavica (200g) for about £5, and we shared it amongst two people. It was a spread. The best way to eat it is having the bread, the veal meat slice, topped with onions, paprika spread and their cheese card TOGETHER. Feast for the senses, ofc, not easy to put every bite together. This version seems more like the Balkans type of Hamburger
Walked a little off Old Town (towards shopping mall) for cheap eats and found this: £3 crepes. We had the bacon crepes - only because we thought it had mushroom. Still, bacon + melted cheese in a crepe was extremely filling, and it's still worth it. Wishing for more worth it crepes like this - especially in Singapore!!
Found this by the side entrance of Budva's old town. What a gem indeed, we had Broccoli and Chicken cream pasta (£4.50) and Carbonara (£4) all for 400g serving. The best part is learning about the food from the dedicated chef. He insisted on adding on the extra flavourful olive oil and told us how he opened this store just 6 months ago.
Memorable pasta adds on to a more fruitful trip
(Sarajevo) I got the cheese burek while my friend got the spinach Burek. With yoghurt, the pairing is lovely! This place is recommended by both my free walking tour guide and trip advisor under cheap eats! It is about 5.5Km or 2.75 euros. While it may be double the price of Belgrade, it is still slightly cheaper compared to most meals in Europe. Many locals around!
Pljeskavica!! I feel in love with it the moment I ate it. It's traditional Serbia food and it's veal meat minced with onion and garlic. Then it's wrapped with a naan with more onion and garlic! It ties the knot nicely with the Balkan region's unique Paprika spread. For mains beginning at €3 in this meat dominated region, trying this is a must. PS. My free walking tour guide says this is her favourite food!
