秘制泉水牛蛙 ($27.80) was more of like mala frog leg, can try if you have extra cash to spare.
重庆酸菜鱼 ($22.80) is my second favourite, the soup is less spicy than Ba Shu’s and it’s super addictive!
水煮牛肉 ($25.80) is third on my list, the beef tenderloin is very tender.
Ate at Chengdu twice and I keep coming back for the 干煸肥肠 ($22.80)! It’s not gamey at all and not that spicy, but spicy enough for a good kick!
Citrus Fling was good. The thin film on top is Slate’s homemade lemongrass candy, not sweet but the lemongrass flavour could be a little stronger?
Not a fan of the vegan brownie as it was paired with nuts and was quite dry.
Citrusy and easy to drink! Good for palate cleansing as we had ordered mostly meaty main courses to share.
Tangy slaw on the side was great for cleansing palates between each bite. Coffee Beef Short Ribs tasted a little too bitter for me, and the meat was a little dry too.
It’s quite heavy on the tongue when eating it plain, so pairing it with ciabatta made it a little better. I would skip this if you are thinking of trying other main courses.
This pork belly is grilled to perfection! It was not too greasy as it’s paired with a vinegar dip. Very fragrant, a definite must try when you come to Slate for dinner!
Salmon tartare was nicely seasoned and tasted citrusy, perfect pairing with with squid ink sago crackers!
The 6 of us also ordered Wagyu Truffle Beef Hor Fun (3-4 people portion) to share, so each person only gets a small bowl to try as the portion is quite little. We like how the horfun has crispy bits inside and with every small bite, we get a heavenly waft of truffle aroma. 😍
Overall pretty cool entrance to the hidden restaurant behind but also a little waste of space for the facade on the front as it seems to be just empty for now. 🤔
Went to try the food with a party of 6. Ordered the popular Firecracker Chicken and Maple Fritters and wow, it was amazing! The chicken was very spicy and a little ma, essentially it is 辣子鸡 with a good portion of chicken (unlike other restaurants that served more chilli than chicken bits). Not really a fan of the maple youtiaos as it’s very sweet and quite hard to chew.
Went with their specialty flavour and fish (both first one on the list) and portion was a super good (shared amongst 4 ppl and ordered rice, and some other snacks). The add-on vegetables were not very worth as the portion given was very little and was charged $3++ each serving, so skip it if you can.
Overall it was good and I’ll give it 4/5 stars, will be back to try the other flavours!!
