Given the name burma social it's a mystery why anyone would get the Indian, Chinese, or Thai dishes since such cuisines are so easily found in Singapore
Also they're quite sneaky w the salt, it's quite salty even if it's not immediately obvious. Plus the heat was quite tough on my stomach, I was having heartburn even 4hours after the meal
Food:
The rice thoke. Their dinner menu isn't working (at least for me) but if it were, it would be a menu item dead centre of the bottom section of the menu
It's rice w tomatoes basically. The freshness of the tomato is strongly expressed in this dish, through the use of other herbs. It's really delicious, the only complain is the slightly rough stickiness at the back of the throat of the rice.
Delightful, and despite what they say the two dishes I had aren't actl that similar.
A very wet and weak version of this. The flavour and the impact has probably been adjusted (we all know why, the clientele)
It's still enjoyable enough. The shrimps are too hard to be in a salad tho, it's more for cooking
Overall barely passable
They offer free Burmese tea but a review says it's caffeinated. Surprisingly their still water was free, but best to check again
Anyway the condiments were quite special. From the left, Cantonese chili oil tasted V diff from most. It's got a diff base I think, and a substantial sweetness that works to increase the power of the chili oil
The peanut and garlic mix was intensely aromatic although the flavour falls short a little. It's also mixed w a slightly spicy spice powder
The last taramind paste was interesting too. It's got aroma from the garlic and nuts, as well as chew from diced onions. This is something I've never had before, and I really liked it
Very good condiments
Idt I've had it grilled before, so it's hard to tell if this is considered well executed relatively. More often it's boiled till tender, but our table agreed that this was abit dry and tough
It's very mild and lukewarm. Better to get the pickled tea leaf in the salad instead
Fixed portion of 4 types
Basically Kueh. Potato?, tapioca, coconut and banana. It's coarser than the kuehs we are used to. The banana one is really good tho, it's the pink variety and the flavour is intense
Quite good. The veggie itself sucks but it's their skill that makes this into a lovely dish, the various components turn it into a something that has mainly a clean oil flavour.
Worth a try
Just rlly dark soy sauce, birds eye chili and perfectly crunchy well cooked pig intestines. Simple but delightful
Reasonably tender ckn, it's kind of a mild vegetable herbal soup
PSA this is located on the exterior of the mall, from the crossroad leading to city hall mrt, walk straight along the mall after crossing the road and go down the escalator which appears on the right
Food:
Choice of dry/soup ckn/pork. We had dried pork, you can't rly see the minced pork but you taste the umami. Noodles are the Thai glass noodles which really suck as dry noodles cos it clumps tgt. But flavour profile is mainly fried aromatics with fermented bean curd sauce. Ofc idk if it's exactly this ingredient but it tastes 90% like that. Quite interesting but not particularly good
Absolutely fiery but so delicious, there's an intense umami emanating from the dried fish flakes and it is one of the best chili's I've ever had. There are variations with dried shrimps or even without any meat but I have no doubt they're all delicious. Not to mention the veritable crispy texture of the mixture, much more than most
This was a gift from a friend who brought it back from Myanmar, however I heard some are available in peninsula plaza too
It's got hae bee inside. It's different from the onion sambal we are more used to cos this one has a more savoury slant.
Also using Google lens translate it says there's dried fish inside? Not sure tho, even my Burmese neighbour don't rlly know what's inside either
