Tangsuyuk ($25++) - bite-sized sliced pork covered with soy sauce, pepper and starch powder with sweet and sour sauce poured over.
It might not look like the most appetising pork dish BUT it's really good! This is one of those rare dishes that tastes better with every piece. I love the very well-balanced sweet and sour flavour from the sauce, and the starchiness of the meat shocked me because I did not expect that, but it turned out to be a texture that suited the overall taste of the tender meat. All the portions at O.bba Jang are pretty big so be careful what you order and come in a big group, I mean their makgeoll can be easily split among around 6 ppl! 😬 Regardless, I love this place so much and would definitely revisit for more delicious authentic Korean dishes! 😁
A single visit to @o.bba_jjajang might never allow you to eat Korean food that is not even half as authentic anymore, because everything here, from the food to the staff, feels authentically Korean, and I definitely felt like I left Singapore for a while.
Tried the famed Jjajangmyeon ($12) and it was wickedly delicious! Everything was pretty good in general but this was without a doubt the highlight of the night! I have personally never had jjajangmyeon before, so this sets the bar for me. The noodles are generously topped with black bean sauce, an over-the-top amount of onions (for me at least 😂), diced pork and shredded cucumber. It's a really simple dish but the sweet and savoury black bean sauce is the key to this dish's flavour with the generous serving meaning every strand of noodle gets sauce, yet it does not feel excessive.
At O.BBa Jjajang, it is not just the food but the entire package of the meal that makes experience so memorable and thoroughly satisfying. Great food, friendly and swift service, cozy private rooms - these all contributed to the wonderful dinner at this truly authentic Korean restaurant. I'm all in to returning for another bowl of jjajangmyeon next time. 😋
