Found out about this place online after reading a couple of blogs on Heng Hua cuisine, and decided to also try this dish out for its the specialty here. Cod fish was really succulent and had its own bounciness despite being fried and doused in the soup, while the soup base seemed to have absorbed the nourishing ingredients such as Dan Gui, Gou Qi, ginger, seaweed, cabbage etc with a bit of milkiness, while being light and flavourful. Pretty value for money at $25, and they have a pretty cute SG50 deal where they give a squash set (racket and ball with CD tutorial worth $28) for minimum of $50 spent lol.

We had a taste of the citrusy Miwa Yuzu Sake (personal fave), the traditional Kiku Masamune Junmai Taru and the sofisticated Ozeiki Junmai Rai for more experienced alcoholics. 😉
If you need recommendations for broth choices, try these:
- Spicy MaLa Broth | good amount of heat without too much of the numbing sensation.
- Wild Mushroom Broth | the friggin' best extracted mushroom flavoured broth I've ever tasted. More than three types of mushrooms boiled for hours with their signature Pork broth!
- Shark's Fin Melon Herbal Soup | newest addition to their broth choices, naturally sweetened with Honey Dates and Chinese Almonds.

58bucks/bottle of Yuzu Sake
#FTrecommends

Their soup bases are made daily from scratch and served in a crystal pot that reduces the risk of you getting scalded. They also use smokeless grills so you won’t smell like BBQ! At $16.80+ during lunch on weekdays, this is a buffet for hangry souls on a budget.

Signature Lobster in Black Truffle and Cheese Hot Pot carries a strong taste of truffle and a tinge of sweetness from the lobster. The broth had a thick consistency and it gets richer as more ingredients are added to it.

I would have to say my second visit was more pleasant than the first!
Finally managed to try the chicken wings and it was soooooo good. This time we chose Collagen and Tomato Soup base, and it was heavenly as the collagen can be abit gelak after drinking too much and the tomato refreshes the palette. It's gonna be my default combi!
It was less crowded than the last time I was there, hence the level of customer service given to each customer was higher. The staff were courteous, polite and attentive, great job! 👍🏼

If you love eating at Hai Di Lao, you're going to enjoy this spot. Shang Pin is similar in concept and variety, but sports a simpler, more casual ambience and a more affordable price tag. Just a five-minute walk from Dhoby Ghaut MRT and open till midnight daily, it can get crowded but thankfully does not have a crazy queue. Choose from three soup bases ($16) — Chicken, Sichuan Spicy and the crowd favourite, Tomato. Then pick the ingredients to go into the broth — don't miss out on the Black Pork ($10) and Shrimp Paste ($12)! You'll also get to witness a noodle master at work, spinning wonderfully slippery Kungfu noodles ($3). Note that half portions are not available. Pro tip: Make reservations if you can!
Avg Price: $30 per person
