Though this place is famous for its som tam, I wasn't terribly impressed by it. The dressing was salty but everything was quite tasteless. I've definitely had better ones. This was also a fiery one so, if you can't hold your spice - don't order it.
Located on the Soi 5 side alley of Siam Square, this Thai food joint is frequented by lots of local young professionals. The queue can be quite long in the evenings on week days so, best to go a little earlier to avoid the wait. You place your order outside before you get your table. Seems strange but it does mean that you get your food almost immediately once you're seated.
Surprisingly, these noodles were my favourite order. The rice noodles were a little softer (?overcooked) than what were probably used to, but it was quite nicely seasoned. What made it better was the pork floss and deep fried pork skin crunchies on top that gave it added sweet and saltiness.
So yummy. The jellies are basically grass jelly, but more QQ compared to our silky grass jelly. The milk was slightly sweetened and had just the right amount of kahlua to give it that extra something something. I had to be careful to not down it too quickly.
Tea time called for a massive deeeelicious chocolate crepe, crisp on the outside and chewy in the middle, filled with two scoops of creamy vanilla ice cream, a variety of berries and chunks of banana. With a pot of Nutella sauce on the side, you can add as much or as little as your sweet tooth allows. It was quite sizeable so, was enough for two of us to share.

So smooth and well balanced. Also, those glass cups.
Toasty bread topped with a fresh tomato salsa and avocado. The poached egg was a little more done than what I like, but still beautifully creamy. So refreshing to start a day of cafe hopping.
This was actually part of a lunch set (that starts at 10am hehe) and came with a tangy tomato soup. I love all soup and this one had a great balance of sweet and salty.

Ventured up through Ratchathewi, through the Muslim quarters to find this little gem. Walking into the little shop, there were many filled tables with people digging into MASSIVE sharing bowls of the lobster tom yum kung. It looked incredible but there was no way we'd manage to finish it so, went with the standard order with mussels, prawn and egg. You also get to choose your noodles - obvs I went with Mama instant noodle.
The tom yum kung soup was so tangy, flavourful and not too rich. If only, if only, there was so much more of it.

I'm not big on cream so, I'm not usually one to order any kind of mille crepe type of dessert. But, I had heard a lot of very good things about this Milo volcano crepe cake so, we had to try it. It was so beautiful cutting into it and the chocolatey layers were a little thicker than your typical mille crepe. What made this great was the lush Milo sauce drizzled all over the cake and the Milo cookies dropped atop and around that gave it a nice crunch.
I love a good corn cake thing. The fritters were light and fluffy. All topped off nicely with a refreshing avo salsa, tomatoes, tzatziki & crispy crispy bacon. 🥓

Calamari is my favourite starter/appetiser and if it's on the menu - I always order it. 🦑 This beautifully battered calamari dish came with courgette, basil & parsley. The batter tasted like it was spiked with paprika and the Harissa mayo for dipping made all the difference.

Was curious about the dry version of the wantan noodles. It didn't have any particular sauce, the noodles were tossed in a garlic lardy oil and tung choi. 🤤 I decided it was a cross between our wantan mee and kolo mee (but not as good).
I read about this place, originally known as Bamee Sawang, famed for its Thai style wantan mee. The wantan noodles are nice and eggy, and texturally like a very thin mee pok. The soup it is served in has great flavour, and you can taste crabby goodness in it. 🦀 You can also get this same bowl of noodles with extra shrimp wantans for THB 100.

I think there are very few things that a bowl of soup cannot fix. That, or gin.
