Sweet Dessert
The buttermilk waffles had a nice, crisp exterior yet were still very fluffy inside. I liked that it just had a hint of earl grey flavour and that it wasnโt too overpowering. The tart strawberries balanced out the sweet vanilla ice cream, and everything went well together. Pretty worth it!
The pancake is very crispy on the outside. The flavour is rich and satisfying. Do share with your friends cause one can't finish this alone definitely.
Not one to rest on their laurels, following up from their several successful dessert launches comes this Banana Chocolate Parfait ($8), a bowl that is constructed with chocolate and banana cakes, chocolate mousse and candied walnuts. The unique thing in this (and I am purely guessing) is the lime zest shavings that provides a different flavour profile to cut through the heaviness from the strong flavours coming from the bananas and chocolate.

It comes served with crumbles and Butterscotch ice cream at the side, and topped with candied walnuts that helps to give it some crunchiness and for a more all-rounded taste!
It's been a long week rounded off with an even longer weekend. Hope everyone gets some good rest tonight โ myself included โ and wakes up refreshed and energised and ready to take on the new week!
One of my favourite mood-lifters when on a budget: this ruby-coloured red tea jelly softly draped over shaved ice in evaporated milk.
Considering my love for the traditional lemon meringue pie, there's something more to this than pure light & refreshing. The tangy pineapple at the bottom adds slight acidity to the not-too-sweet meringue laying atop a crumbly warm base.
Considering I always have a love hate relationship with diabetic-inducing meringue at many places, this managed to steal my heart. It was also a well paired marriage with their vanilla icecream, music & great atmosphere, I wouldn't mind coming back just to have another round of desserts for dinner. Oh but good morning everyone! Today will be a good day ๐๐ป
Not usually a fan of dates in their original form, but how do you resist when they're encased in a warm pudding and topped off with vanilla ice cream?
This was actually the reason why we headed to Niche Savoureuse for desserts โ to try their Nyonya 3-Layered Kueh which seems to be served only on weekends.
Think of this as their twist to the Kueh Salat; the top layer is still Pandan Custard, while the middle lies a mix of tapioca, sweet corn, cream and coconut milk and the bottom is a layer of orange sweet potato kueh. The result was a pretty interesting twist; the top layer providing that familiar Pandan flavour without being overly sweet while the middle layer tasted pretty much of coconut milk though with a more fibrous texture due to the input of other ingredients. The bottom sweet potato adds a distinct sweetness to the Kueh which made it feel pretty natural as opposed to adding excessive amounts of sugar to the Pandan Custard layer. The only gripe was that the texture could be improved on; the Pandan Custard layer often fell off from the bottom two layers when cut, and the bottom layer could be a little bit more moist for a more coherent texture. Still, it is a very interesting twist to the Kueh Salat that works great if you are looking for something that is unlike the usual cake if in the area.
Even with only four desserts on the menu, fret not - Alter Ego helps with your sweet cravings - be it the difficult decision of eating clean, or a sinful indulgence.
For the health nuts, their smoothie bowls ($6 - Blackberry Binge/ Cacaoholic) has bananas, blueberries, soymilk and all the stuff that's good for you. The former with additional raspberries/ blackberries, pomegranate arils, quinoa Puff and roasted cashews, the latter with raw cocoa nibs, dark chocolate & coconut drizzle! Honestly it might work as a meal by itself? ๐
Consider the Berries & Cream ($11) with macerated strawberries/raspberries, and light Chantilly cream; or Lemon Icebox Pie ($11) with a no-bake, smooth, tangy lemon curd filling on the cinnamon-dusted crust for a little more guilty indulgence.
Hot bowls of Ah Balling black sesame paste (basically has tang yuan, which you can choose between peanut or sesame) - simple, cheap and authentic. It really felt like I was in a crowded dessert shop in Hong Kong.
Really adored this bowl of nourishing goodness as it was thick and creamy, but not too sweet nor overpowering. Worth the price tag though a tad too pricey! As much as that being said, it's good for health as almonds are supposedly nourishing for the lungs and for good complexion!
