Really economical economical rice!
Located on the second floor of the dingy Parklane Shopping Mall along Selegie Rd is Isle Eating House. The queues here are spectacularly long but they are constantly moving.
The cafe sells economical rice; dishes like hor fun, fried rice and laksa; and fish soup. The longest queue belonged to the cai png vendor so being Singaporean, I decided to go for that.
To my amazement, I ordered rice with, mala chicken, salted egg yolk chicken, tofu with minced pork, spicy long bean and a fried egg, all for $5.30. Whut? The dishes were hot, fresh and yummy. If I'm in Selegie/Prinsep area and I need a good cheap meal, this is it.
