TO-EATS!

Finally got some time to go out for a proper meal and a great one it was!

Man Man Unagi Restaurant has been on my wish list for the longest time and I'm so glad to have tried this place. I understand now why this restaurant garners such long queues.

The large hitsumabushi (S$39.80+) comes with three different styles of eating - by its own, with condiments such as wasabi and with broth. The unagi is so fresh, evident from all the live eels in the tank.

It was such a satisfying meal. I will definitely be back for more.

The block of mango wrapped in that thin layer of glutinous rice sheet wasn't very sweet when we visited, but I really enjoyed the combination of the soft, tangy flesh against the chewy sticky rice blanket, plus that generous coating of grated coconut.

We also tried the Durian in Sticky Rice Roll ($5.80) and I like how the filling wasn't rock hard/semi-frozen like in other dessert places.

Woke up craving for Fried Carrot Cake and I ended up having 2 plates. Fried Carrot Cake Wars: 富明 (left) vs 日夜香 (right). While bloggers rave abt 富明， the one with the queue is 日夜香. Both do their own Kueh, but I personally like 日夜香's version more. Mainly becuz I like my black version sweeter and 富明's is strangely quite salty. Own made salted egg yolk sauce lavishly spread across whole fried chicken thigh. Each bite is an assault of the creamy rich sauce. A simple side of sesame slaw to complete the dish.

Making up for lost time because @timchee fell sick on Good Friday. Back at our favourite cafe & #thebestcafeof2015 to try their new menu! We ordered both the new items, Lobster & Truffle Cassoulet and Mentaiko Okonomiyaki, along w our all time favourite Aburi Broccoli Salad (that we gobbled in 5 secs) & Magic Coffee. The lobster truffle may look very gelard but I would say it's a lighter version of Mac & cheese! Just enough truffle oil w/o being overpowering, and that chunky lobster pieces in that light creamy cheese sauce (tgt w mushroom, potato & tomato) which I cleared up without any leftovers. DIS WAFFLE. 😱mind blown😱

Totally unassuming, it looks just like another waffle with ice cream... But we were hooked after the first bite! There was something strangely savory about it, a little like a muffin. Coupled with the crisp crust and ice cream... Man oh man... 😋

Want to venture away from the usual Vietnamese pho? Then head straight for these hearty and flavourful broken rice bowls (cơm tấm). Cơm tấm is a humble dish unique to southern Vietnam that sports a couscous-like texture. It is a cheaper grade of rice traditionally preferred by poorer folks, but has gained popularity over the years due to its ability to soak up flavour. Their specialties include the Sautéed Lemongrass Pork Slices Rice Bowl ($9.90), which comes with BBQ pork ribs, ham and a fried egg, and the Crispy Soft-shell Crab and Crispy Squid Rice Bowl ($13.90). You get to choose between steamed Vietnamese broken rice or kimchi fried rice.
