Hawker Food Cravings
Never expected to have such good quality crabs at such affordable prices! Although not as big as the full grown Sri Lankan crabs we normally see, the crabs here are still meaty, so you don't feel shortchanged. There are a few options here ā $25 for three small crabs, $30 for two medium or $40 for two large. My girlfriend and I opted for two medium crabs, one cooked in chili sauce and the other in salted egg sauce. Note: The standard procedure is cooking both crabs in the same sauce, but we wanted to try different sauces so we paid $4 extra to have the crabs cooked in two different sauces ($34) ā totally worth it! Also note that there's a difference between dry salted egg and salted egg sauce. Don't order the wrong thing! We nearly did šØ Skip the tze char here, instead order the golden, pillowy mantou ($4 for 12!) to mop up all the sauce!! SHIOKKK šš»šš»šš»šš»šš»
From a stall with the very literal name 'Salted Egg Yolk Chicken'. Value for money (I think it was $4.50?) and a great choice if you are undecided and daunted by the immense variety in the Chinatown food centre.
The wok hei in this dish is REAL folks! Extremely fragrant, it ain't your average hor fun. The gravy is laden with the taste of prawns and fried shallots, making the entire dish slurp worthy.
Do come early though, as part of the experience is a chaotic mess of a queue and confused diners. We got lucky and shared a table (and made a friend! Hi @msginginly ). Will have to come back again as we missed out on their Claypot Yong Tau Foo which was already sold out at ard 630 ššš
Really love the wok hei taste and the thick, flavorful broth used to cook up this plate of Hokkien Mee. Normally other stores would use ē²ē±³ē² and é»é¢, but over here auntie used ęé¢ which tasted even better imo. Gotta go try out this different version because it's good!
Been wanting to try this for awhile, especially the curry mee! I went for the dry kway teow version tossed in signature sauce for a ~slightly~ healthier option but had immediate regrets after trying my boyfriend's curry mee with pork belly, it was sooooo good. Slightly crispy fat and tender meat, the pork is perfectly executed. The curry mee is a very huge serving and can get a bit gelat after awhile, so actually I'd recommend sharing one bowl as long as you're not a big eater. And it's cheap too! We went at 2+ and almost everything was sold out so I couldn't try the western food or the radish cake. Will definitely be back again.
