Cafes ☕️
Not what I expected for brunch, but the Fried Chicken ($24) came w 3 massive pieces of drumlet/wings!!! Meat was so moist that the honey-lemon glazed batter kept sliding off the juicy meat. Loved the light toum (garlic whip/dip) that tasted so good w everything (fries, chicken, pita). Order this to share if you're not a big eater!
Moist, chewy center and slightly charred crust spread w housemade nut butter and honey drizzled. I'm so happy we have a bakery dedicated to sourdough 😌
Felt like I was transported back to the 60s; marble + wooden decor and open kitchen, traditional breakfast ($4) made of hot drink, half boiled eggs and house made kaya (intense pandan and coconut flavour), butter and freshly baked toast. I even bought two jars of kaya home! Can't go wrong w this one 💯
A short walk from Farrer Park (Exit B), Old Hen minimalistic decor is a welcoming sight. Cold Brew, White ($6.50) is extremely creamy w a hint of coffee acidity. Overall a well rounded flavor. Go for the black if you want a stronger brew! On a side note, they use Nylon and Oriole coffee beans, which are both well known for their coffee ☕️
Always love a good neighborhood cafe that is easily accessible and serves healthy/hearty dishes. Ocean Thirteen ($17) made the usual eggs ben pale in comparison; yuzu hollandaise sauce (slight tangy but otherwise rich and buttery) and beet root yogurt (earthy, sweet) gave the dish a run for my money; runny eggs + smoked salmon + salmon roes on sour dough = party in my mouth 🎉 such vibrant/pretty dish!
5 mins walk from Bugis Junction to this quiet cafe originated from NYC. Ordered the Pancakes w Warm Maple Butter ($18) and was pleasantly surprised by how huge the portion was! 3 stacks of warm, thick pancakes that were fragrant, rich but easy on the palate. Subtle taste of fried butter and just the right amount of blueberries in each pancake to taste the cake. Pancakes were good on their own without maple butter or wild blueberry sauce (best pancake topping is more pancakes!)
Earl Grey Pancakes was a real sweet (sinful) treat for brunch! Loved the hint of earl grey in the moist pancakes + macadamia crumbles. Poached pear dipped in choco a great touch, but could've been more flavorful. Sightly pricey ($19) but I believe loads of work went into this smallish, beautiful mess. Go for their perfectly ripe avo smash + poached eggs on sourdough ($13) if you want something more filling/savory!
Lovely space w plenty of natural light. Second visit to Atlas Coffeehouse saw me having their creamy mushrooms w scrambled eggs on sourdough ($17). Generous portion of eggs tho slightly overcooked. Wholesome brunch to start the day right 😊
The tables at Ronin' cafe were mostly occupied even on a weekday during brunch hours. Loved the quaint and unpretentious space. Had the good ol' eggs on toasts with avo on the side ($13) always love a simple meal, although I was rather disappointed the yolks were overcooked and weren't runny. Be sure to try their "wicked" coffee, which tasted a lot like after8 chocolate!
