Affordable/Value For Money
Here’s where I go for good and cheap ramen. Fantastic value and terrific quality, you’d be hard pressed to find a better ramen at this price point.
If you like tsukemen, try their Tonkotsu Gyokai Ramen ($8.90, pictured). That bonito + tonkotsu base will truly whet your appetite and leave you salivating 🤤 the gyoza ($5) is not bad too! Skin is not too thick with a dipping sauce that is salty, vinegary and savoury. If you prefer a dry ramen, they do a pretty good rendition with their Dry Truffle Ramen ($6.90).
Overall, highly recommend this place, definitely my go-to for cheap ramen.
Tried the Prawn Miso Angel Hair pasta. Pretty tasty for $6! Slightly on the dry side but good prawn flavour. Don’t really taste the miso but it probably helped with the umami mouthfeel. Appreciate cheap finds like this that feel like there was some effort put into their food.
The white bread is sweet-ish, which I love but I think not everyone might! I loved the combination of ingredients, but I think individually each component wasn’t OUTSTANDING for eg, the pork slice was quite thin, the cheese slice wasn’t melted.
Was very pleasantly surprised that the rice was chicken rice!! Their fried chicken is really v tasty and well fried!!
Been wanting to try this for awhile now and it didn't disappoint!! The prata was crispy and fluffy, just wish they held back on the hollandaise/mayo/thousand island cause it felt like the prata was drowning under all the sauce. Anyway for $5 I definitely don't think it was expensive!
Possibly one of my fav ban mians because the noodles are really q and yummy!! Underrated stall at serangoon gardens market, if you're sick of queuing for the ba chor mee or the braised duck there, this is a really great option.
I really like Tai Cheong's scrambled eggs for their buttery, silky texture, but I think some would prefer the eggs to be more salted.
The bolo bao aka pineapple bun sadly fell below my expectations :( it wasn't particularly fluffy inside. It's not a bad bolo bao, I think I just had high expectations cause of their amazing egg tarts.
Major major plus points for affordability!!
The recent macs burger craze had me craving some real nasi lemak, so I decided to try the one from coconut club because I've heard some rave reviews. Glad to say that the nasi lemak here is definitely worth the higher price!! The coconut rice is fragrant and light so you don't feel gelat after eating too much, and the tasty chicken itself sets the whole dish apart from other cheaper nasi lemaks.
The hoisin and mustard sauce - genius combination!! Though to be honest I'm partial to hoisin sauce on anything. The pork belly was really crispy and I loved that they put cucumber instead of the usual lettuce cause it really brought the burger together. And the buns were well buttered and crispy and fluffy!!
The garlicky fragrance of this tender and juicy pork rib is unparalleled, and it's so well seasoned! This is affordable to me because it costs significantly less than the crystal jade one and tastes better to me. The la mian noodles are silky smooth and the soup is very tasty. Altogether a very delicious dish!!
A very rustic and old school French toast unlike anything you can find in cafes. You can taste the char on this unassuming eggy bread which pairs perfectly with kaya on the side.
The roast pork belly was tender and had a perfectly crispy skin, while the roast duck was similarly tender and fatty without being too oily. Love love love the ginger and spring onion sauce, it really goes perfectly with the roasted meats.
