Being Neighborly In M'sia
Another must-try is the Southern Thai yellow crab curry; this dry curry is super aromatic with chunks of crab and intense wok hei. Great service, amazing food and very affordable, definitely on my list to revisit.
Had an AMAZING Thai dinner here. The food is punchy, exciting and every dish had something that grabbed your attention.
Take this starter of chicken hearts and gizzards playfully batter and deep fried; simply addictive with their homemade Sriracha.
Last meal on this KL trip and ending it with a bang! Village Park Restaurant’s nasi lemak has clinched it as highlight of the trip. I could wax lyrical about all the amazing components (their rice is suuuuuper lemak) but I’ll just touch on the best item on the plate; that fried chicken.
Marinated in an aroma bombz of flavours, it’s deep fried to perfection – crisp on the outside and amazingly moist and tender in the inside. Then they top it off with a copious amount of fried spice bits (think ginger, lemongrass...) that’s oh-so-fine with just rice and sambal. Man oh man, I’d even go so far to claim this as one of the best nasi lemaks I’ve ever had! If you only have time for one stop in KL, pleaseeeee come here.
Foo Foo Fine Desserts deffo lives up to their name! If you’ve only got space for one dessert, get this Strawberry Tart w/ Balsamic Vinegar Ice Cream. That smooth, tangy ice cream was a delight with the buttery tart base and finely sliced strawberries. Yummmeh!
Good morning KL! Satisfying breakfast at Mansion Tea Stall with their famous Roti Canai Banjir Special. Basically chopped up prata drenched in curry topped off with two wobbly eggs and sambal. Yummmmm.
Am I posting tau huay? Yes I am, cause this smooth bowl of bean curd in a light ginger syrup was yummy, and that cup of thick soy milk was one of the best I’ve ever had. I wouldn’t make a special trip down, but if you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and try this!
First stop on the Burpple team’s KL excursion: Bala’s Banana Leaf! Surprisingly light biryani, super tasty sides (that crispy fried gourd) and yummy curries, the only right way to eat this is with your hands.👌
This was our #treatyoself meal for the trip at the crowded N97. A whooping 600-800g of steak, really crusty on the outside, moist and tender on the inside and seasoned really well. What can I say except that I don’t regret this at all!
The waiter will recommend medium to medium well but we went with medium rare which I felt hit the right spot. And that sauceeeee! Dammmm, was it good. A thick, garlicky cream sauce, it went well slathered on EVERYTHING. If there’s two of you, just this should suffice as a main. A great place for date night or celebrations, make sure you make a reservation cause it can get pretty crowded!
The sio bak here fared much better than the char siew. The crackling on the roasted pork was mmmmm... Biscuity and fills your mouth up with that addictive lardy aroma. Would pick that over the char siew any day!
The things you’ll find traveling through KL’s roadside stalls! This coconut chicken soup is Zheng Kee Restaurant’s signature and you’ll love it if you’re a fan of herbal chicken soups. Steaming it in the old coconut, it gets this slightly sweeter flavour that I really liked. Don’t expect tender chicken though as it’s probably there more for the soup’s flavour but there’s plenty of meat if you don’t mind that.
The prelude to our giant tomahawk last night, this aglio olio pretty much hit all the right notes! Slick, tasty and definitely not without a good kick of heat, it’s something I wouldn’t mind having again (but if you’re the kind that balks at pastas with oil pools below, this might not be for you). The four prawns also came cooked really well, firm but not cooked to death, but could be a tad fresher.
This seems to be a really popular spot for celebrations too with a lot of families and couples. You’ll be splurging, but hey, gotta #treatyoself once in a while. 😛
A big pull to Hoshino Coffee for many are their desserts! Their French toast is a good example of pillowy, fluffy goodness. The insides of the thicker slices are a little bit eggy, and don’t be fooled, that’s not ice cream, it’s whipped cream!
