Interesting
Not quite like what you’d expect from the sound of it. Not sure which part of this resembles a cheesecake! Perhaps due to the fact that they sweeten the dish with yoghurt sauce, fig jam and beetroot. Interesting, but I’d rather explore the other dishes on hind sight.
Part of 5 course chef tasting menu [$145]
Made in house rye sourdough served with silken cheese topped with extra virgin olive oil and 25 years aged balsamic and vegetable broth prepared from 7 types of vegetables finished with parsley oil.
A new entrant to the already bustling tanjong pajar road stretch, the concept of the Obelisk is conceived based on the owner’s background in architecture, design and music. It has a lot to do with the visuals, the acoustics and the feel of the restaurant.
The menu is made up of local inspired fun plates, with no clear stated distinction between the small and big plates. All meant for sharing, so the more the merrier!
This is one of my favorite dishes from the night. I mean, seriously, who can resist the allure of the perfectly cooked soft boiled eggs swaddled in sausage meat with a light crisp breaded exterior. Not forgetting the flavorful accompanying mee pok, which was delicate with the touch of tobiko and zingy pickled sprouts.
Inspired from makis, these rolled up buckwheat crêpés comes with crab and avocado. I felt it was quite compressed, it made the rolls quite small. Liked be cider sauce which was creamy and slightly sourish, a refreshing change from typically used mayo for this combi. It’s interesting but I’ll say you’re much better off with the inspiration galettes.
Liked the idea but wish the crepe dough was a bit more substantial. Whole thing came together but could be a little more flavorful
Creamy rich and decadent, need I say more?
Deep fried chicken coated in chunks of potato chips served with chojang (Korean spicy sauce) on the side
The pork ribs is lean with minimal fats, yet the taste is not compromised. [$8/100g] chicken was pulled from whole chicken, lightly tossed in a secret sauce before serving [$7/100g] cornbread was amazing!! Crumbly, and had hints of parmesan. [$4] roasted potato salad was probably the least of our favorites, it had some Indian spice added to it. [$7] lastly, the coleslaw was not the usual laden with mayonnaise kind, but rather tossed in a light vinaigrette with a little heat [$6] but overall, it's very good!! Definitely exceeded our expectations. Will be back to try the pulled pork and the brisket, and maybe Mac and cheese if we're hungry enough! 😁
Super yummy! Burst of flavors with crunchy pistachio nuts
