A little greasy, a little sweet, a lot spicy and a lot satisfying. Can't explain why but whenever the rain pours, I get a craving for less-than-healthy food, like this Macaroni Goreng. Anyone else feels the same?

Guess you knew what I followed. After a 15 minute queue, got my hands in the crispy chicken cutlet Cantonese style noodles... In local Hainanese style curry.
It's the local tonkatsu curry I think. More people should sell this.

Made a visit to Yee Kee Specialist Roasted Duck with a few friends who have raved about their charsiew. Ordered three different meats to share; roast duck, charsiew and roasted pork, and while the roast duck and roast pork were decent, it was the charsiew that blew me away. Both the lean and fatty ones were good, though the lean one seemed a tad drier. However, the charsiew's charred exterior was deliciously sweet, and the fatty parts were chunky carrying loads of bite which is what makes it so good. The stall's last day of operations would be on 29th August 2015, so do head down for a taste of the charsiew before it is all lost.

[Upper Serangoon] What's up for supper tonight? A few nights ago, due to a spontaneous decision, we decided to have supper but couldn't think of what to eat. After googling and using the @burpple app, we finally decided on a somewhat "healthier" option of teochew porridge and off we went to Heng Long Teochew Porridge, which opens till late. Looking at the array of dishes, we might have over-ordered a little as this table of goodies costs us a total of $18. However, we gobbled down in quick fashion and was truly satisfied. The chilli fishcake was excellent, just the type of texture and taste that I like. Pork belly and big intestines was braised till an umami flavour. The gravy/zhup with the plain porridge was the finishing touch for the fulfilling supper.

Definitely don't skimp on ingredients here. Comes with Sio bak, laba and the works. Be prepared for an hour long wait though!

If there is one aspect of our culture that does not discriminate, it would definitely be in our food. Despite its authentic Chinese origins, Ri Ri Hong attracts throngs of locals everyday, eager to get their hands on a bowl of fiery, numbing goodness. And even if you had stereotypes of the Chinese, speak to the store owners here and the myths will be dispelled. The store owners are Ri Ri Hong are among the most genuine hawkers I've met. Sincere, friendly and extremely helpful, they have always given me good recommendations of which ingredients to take or even offered to serve me during their lull period. I've been here countless times and the service hasn't changed! The people aside, the Mala hot pot here is among the most tasty and affordable I've had. Order 小辣 if your tolerance for spiciness is among the Singaporean average and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how good the food really is.
