Waffle-icious
This waffle was a good imitation of takoyaki ā squid and prawns within the crispy waffle. The waffle itself had a subtle tangy kick from the kimchi, nicely paired with the seafood and shreds of seaweed. Probably the best savoury waffle we had that day.
The craze of Nasi Lemak hits not only McD and OCK, but also Montana. The coconut-infused waffle was rather soft and mushy in the centre because of the coconut rice. The best part was the golden fried chicken, juicy and tender with a nice hint of turmeric. Le bf also agreed that the chicken was so so good that he only left me with a small piece of meat. I couldn't bring myself to eat the slices of cucumber with the waffle, but the egg yolk did help to make the dish less dry. The otah mousse was interesting, but sadly wasn't that impressive for me. Perhaps, it could be spiced up a little bit.
Found the waffle rather mushy, especially the bottom part of the waffle. Overall, it was rather underwhelming and the components just didn't blend in. The smoked salmon was not strong enough in flavour while the waffle had a black sesame aftertaste that seemed out of place. Not too sure how they can improve on this (besides the mushy waffle of course). Take note that it's only available on weekend or PH brunch.
The crispy matcha waffle was exactly how I remembered Montana's waffles used to be. I suspected it was a buttermilk waffle because it had a slightly salty aftertaste, which was nicely paired with the sweet adzuki bean. Not a big fan of their ice cream for its artificial sweetness though, but the bitter matcha flavour saved the day!
The blue-purple-pink softserve is off-the-menu, but you can always order it by flashing them this post!
The charcoal egglet comes with black sesame aftertaste, stuck in the galaxy softserve. The colours are super chio, making this an Insta-worthy dessert, but better take your photo fast because the softserve melts real fast in the scorching hot weather. You will find some peach, oreo (and its crumbs), and marshmallow in the softserve too. Break the waffle with your fingers and dip it into the softserve ā that's how I ate mine :)
They are probably one of the first cafes that started the cafehopping hype in Singapore a few years ago and so glad they still survive till now. The crispy waffle was on point with a light and fluffy texture, but what got me ecstatic was the scoop of speculoos ice cream! The aroma and flavour were so intense that you honestly need no more sauce on it. If only the scoop was a little bigger though ā¹ļø
This is my first time trying @montanasingapore Black Velvet Waffle and I think it's one of the better waffles in Singapore. The black colour did not (only) serve as novelty purposes, but came as a result of sesame used in making the batter. Meanwhile, the black miso caramel was not overpowerlingly salty and was a creative substitute to the normal salted caramel sauce. All these paired with a scoop of green tea ice cream which I really enjoyed made up one of the best waffles in town, not to mention the crispy and fluffy texture of the waffle. Oh, and you can choose black sesame ice cream instead if you want a stronger sesame-waffle experience!
So excited to try Creamier after 4 years of knowing and waiting! The waffles were definitely on-point with crispy exterior and light fluffy texture inside. They have interesting ice cream flavours but we still stick to the safer ones
Although texture-wise this waffle and ice cream need improvements, I pretty much love the lychee and raspberry sorbet. It's very refreshing and light on palate, a perfect way to complete your meal. Or maybe a tea time refreshment, since the weather is unbearably hot these weeks.
Always excited when something new opened in school, and yet upon trying, more often than not I'm disappointed. This Truffle Honey Waffle is no exception. The only good thing was the crispy-outside-fluffy-inside texture of the waffle. But the rest was disastrous to me. The vanilla ice cream tasted so ordinary and underwhelming that it cheapens the entire dish while the truffle flavour dominated the waffles (and the honey was gone without leaving any trace). If you love truffle so much, maybe this is your stuff, but then again, are you willing to pay $12 for an artificially-truffle-tasting waffle (with pathetic dollop of vanilla ice cream)?
Was having a high expectation on this dish as it's priced rather steeply as compared to the rest of the menu and it's one of the more popular items to appear on Instagram. Sadly, the overhyped dish was a let-down as my waffle was tough and too dense. While I wanted to blame myself for taking my own sweet time to get a good shot of my dish, and thus the melting sorbet, there's nothing spectacular about the dish. The different elements were fine on their own but not to each other. The pistachio was rendered useless as it didn't add anything to the flavour. While the duck was pretty good, it's just a duck confit well done, period. Clearly, it just didn't work for me, and for such a steep price I rather get myself a better plate of duck confit elsewhere.
Crispy-outside-soft-inside airy fluffy waffle just like how I love my waffle to be done. And yes to anti-mainstream option ie. greek yoghurt š
