A nice stiff and smooth drink š„
Beer on tap is always a great idea especially for beer aficionados. Try the Delirium Tremens, purportedly the number 1 beer on their list.
Get the chance to craft an old fashioned with your choice of whiskey from their extensive whiskey list
Alas they could be more generous with the booze. My 555 tasted like a fizzy cucumber drink although the coriander provided an interesting after taste. Although certainly refreshing, we did feel like we were drinking juice.
Locating this bar is part of the excitement - look for the sign of the upside down crown and rectangle, and descend down a flight of stairs to enter a really cool basement space. The drinks menu (Drinking Water) was small but all the offerings were created with much thought and elaborate infusions. My favourite was the Snow, a mixture of genmaicha infused sake, Yuzu zest and yogurt served with a surprise chocolate bowl floating in the cocktail. Refreshing and sweet - like dessert in a cocktail. They change their menu on an ad hoc basis to keep things interesting and already I'm planning my next visit back. This find is for keepers.
Popped by the Jubilee Market last weekend and got ourselves some Teh/Kopi cocktails from the pop up bar at You Good Kopitiam. A mix of Teh, vermouth, cream and a sprinkling of you tiao flakes, this was full of surprises, especially after sticking the straw in and slurping up a mouthful of pearls. We only wished the You Good Kopitiam actually existed on normal days too.
The j-pop, a combination of unmeshu, vodka and interestingly chia seed sake, was a little complex. Both sweet and sour at the same time - best described as interesting. Otherwise the Soumen in a suspiciously laksa like broth I had was decidedly tasty and addictive.
Great view of the surrounding area and the Singapore river from this rooftop bar. Fresh oysters at $20 per half dozen during happy hour (the ponzu/yuzu dressing was the best) but we liked the cooked oysters with caviar more. Drinks were decent enough.
Exciting cocktail week rum drinks with grilled calamari. Loved my pick of Jerry's cold ale flip - a beer cocktail with rock candy and pimento dram. My friend's Steamboat (monkey shoulder and coconut) packed a punch too.
Monkey shoulder based drinks - a surprising Rus-Tea Nail with delightful passionfruit pearls, and a refreshing Morning Glory Fizz.
