Hawker Food

i know i’m late to the game but i finally got around to trying this! i would have expected this to taste overly sweet, except that it wasn’t. the amount of sugar inside this was perfect and the coffee had zero bitterness to it, so a non-coffee drinker like me would definitely be able to down this. i’m also one who loves soya milk, but those who don’t, might find that a bit off putting. ⁣

all in all, those who love their lattes should totally try this. black coffee drinkers might still prefer their regular old coffee 😂⁣

founded by a 22 year old dude and his dad, this hokkien mee really won my heart. i definitely prefer this over the other popular hokkien mee stall at golden mile food centre.⁣

there’s sufficient wok hei flavour, and it wasn’t too dry, just the way i like it. however, i’m a little disappointed that they only had the sambal chilli which is more sweet than spicy. the other chilli that i’ve tried before packs a punch, and would def be something that spice lovers would like. i also remember seeing pork lard previously, but there weren’t any this time, maybe they ran out of it 🥲⁣

hokkien mee has always been my fav thing to order at hawker centres, but good ones are hard to come by.

i honestly think this stall is much better than ah soon which is actually located at lor 29 as the portions are bigger and the staff are much friendlier.

this plate costs $6, but the portion is more than sufficient for 1 person!! the taste of wok hei is prominent and there’s also more gravy, which is what i prefer as well.

Recommended by another Burppler. I was craving for Hokkien mee and so I made a cycling trip to the new estate. Got the $6 option and it was huge. Wok hei is there and it was right on starchiness. It is not as flavorful as the famous one in Geylang but this is definitely much better than your regular neighborhood Hokkien mee.

Those who know me well would know I love Kaya Toast to bits. Have always wanted to try the yam variants (I love yam too!) but hadn't been hardworking enough to reach them early enough for breakfast. Quite a pleasant surprise that there is one from my neighbourhood. They didn't even scrimp on the yam spread on this one, nor on the butter; each just comes in such thick layers in between the crisp bread. I like how the combination goes too; earthy flavours with a little tinge of saltiness from the huge slab of butter, which really goes together well especially if you are one who cringe on how sweet Kaya can be. Certainly good to try out if you hadn't tried anything similar before!
