Joining the popular Tiong Bahru estate is Cream & Custard, a cafe which serves coffee and a small selection of tarts, cakes and pastries. Gloriously spacious with a minimalist white aesthetic, Cream & Custard is a great spot if you are looking for sweet treats in that area. Go for the indulgent Triple Chocolate Devil ($6.80) or the well-balanced Passionfruit Meringue Tart ($5.60).
Didn't expect to be so blown away by these waffle bars prettified with various homemade sauces, fruits and marshmallows, but I was.
The waffle batter is a super top-secret recipe by owners Benamin (pronounced like Benjamin without the 'j') and Lynette, and for good reason – the waffles, when cooked, have a uniquely soft-chewy-gooey texture under a nicely browned crust that stays crisp even under all the toppings. I'd say these rank among my top 3 waffles in Singapore.
Fun fact: "Hvala" means "thank you" in Croatian; it was chosen as the name of the waffle bar to reflect the hospitality that the owners experienced when on holiday there, and represents their attitude toward customers.
Really value for money high tea
One of the few sweet and savoury waffles that is being introduced in Batterworks series of waffles. Aesthetically pretty, the waffles were largely disappointing in taste. Buttermilk batter was bland and the exterior seemed a tad burnt, while the insides were limp and airy. Vanilla Bean ice-cream was pretty rich in dairy but had plenty of ice crystals in between. Passable were the fruits though.
It comes in a variety of flavours and made from fresh fruits. Sorbet selections includes raspberry mango, lemongrass lime, pink guava etc. And ice cream flavours like milo, peanut butter milk and horlicks. 🍦 #shootkahliao
$7.50/slice This not photogenic cake looks like 'sam zam barh'(三辰肉) to me, but it's not! It's sooooooooo soft and defiantly taste better than it look! MUST TRY!
