I have two criterias for clay pot noodles. 1) Yam 2) lard. (And of course lots of vege.☺️) Every traditional clay pot noodles MUST HAVE yam! Anyway eat this with caution. 20 mins later, the noodles still scalded the inside of my mouth. 😅 But of course best thing is, it's only $5! #toogreedy #burpplecheapngood

My mom couldn't stop saying "I have never had such fragrant noodles for a long time!"and mind you my mom seldom give praises to food. This is total comfort food where you can just slurp it all down!

The salted egg sauce had just enough salted egg taste and the combination with the battered and fried prawn was very good! The prawns were plump and juicy enough 😋

This is what happens when the food doesn't come all at one go. That fat prawn in the crunchy batter and well coated in salted egg yolk sauce. 😍 Golden mushroom conpoy tofu full of mushroomy goodness 🍄 and that crunchy yammy yam ring. We always frequent the Zi char here for dinner and I had a chance to have lunch there. Apparently lunch time is equally crowded! Love their claypot beehoon with a nice balance of vegetables, bee Hoon and meat plus a secret dash of lard 🙊. Plus it even has yam inside, which was a nice surprise for me 😁

Trying another dish at our fav Zi char place. This is another secretly salted egg dish that they have. When we ordered, we had the idea of prawn meat balls and was surprised when whole prawns came. Was a bit disappointed when I ate it because the sauce doesn't get onto the meat. After that, the bf told me that I should suck on the prawn first before eating the meat. That really made the difference! Yum

Finally got to try the famous white bee hoon. This was so good and satisfying. Imagine your fried bee hoon w a seafood broth. It was really good w the chilli! Another must order when you're there is their shrimp rolls and sweet potato leaves!

Final dinner for this jubilee weekend. We decided to revisit an old haunt that requires 1 hr waiting time. At $30, this steamboat is chockfull of fish and flavour. They stir fry the ingredients pot by pot that's why it takes so long. In the past, I would be studying while waiting. But today we spent our waiting time sharing photos and talking about our national day celebrations. Such a heartwarming dinner ☺️ #hawkerpedia

29/12/15- My favorite zichar haunt that was not meant to be. This unassuming place was the place that my bf had dinner with my family for the first time. It was also the first place we ate out at since my mom had surgery earlier this year. We didn't go there for 2 months due to busy schedule and having more home cooked meals, then one day it disappeared. The whole coffee shop for bought over and we never knew where is went. 😢 #bestfoodmemory2015 19/07/15-The secretly salted egg dish in an unassuming coffee shop.Pumpkin pork ribs which gets it rich colour from pumpkins. But the rich flavour actually comes from salted eggs (not verified) & pumpkin. Healthily sinful.. 😆 #burpple

The famous Zi char store from lavender food square moved to King George's Avenue. Their fish soup stock is awesome! You taste the smokiness in the soup, which is due to the traditional teochew cooking method of adding a fried flatfish into the soup. Love the huge chunky yam. But the red grouper that they added in was a little too boney. So it might be more value for money if you just get their fish soup. They use the same fish soup stock!

Tasty sauce without being overly salty. Pork ribs was flavorful and tender while the yam also soaked up the flavour of the sauce. 👍🏻 so delicious w white rice!

Back at one of my fav Zi char haunts. At blk 126, Toa Payoh Lorong 1. Today's pumpkin pork ribs seems to have a bit more salted egg than pumpkin. Tasty, but sinful 🙊 The tofu with mushroom was good but prefer the version with minced meat more!
