First time at timbre+ and wanted to try Paella from Portico Platos. But was turned away because they weren't ready at 1120. I think it's ok to be not ready but you shouldn't be rude to potential customers? "We will only be ready at 1145." So I asked "are you asking me not to order?" And he said "yup". And all I wanted was hot food since it's one of the rare chances I'm out of my freezing lab.

Anyway.. decided to have nasi Padang because I can never resist tempeh and the potential of having coconut rice (which was sold out). I wouldn't say it's the best nasi Padang but at least the auntie is friendly ◡̈

Benefits of a student. Where else can you find an ayam bakar at $3.90! (And ayam penyet under $5!) #burpplecheapngood Furthermore they give you the option of brown rice. So it's not just cheap and good, it's #cheapnhealthy. Except the brown rice gets sold out pretty fast, so rmb to come early!

Just some authentic old classic claypot rice. It is fragrant with hua diao jiu, soy sauce and lup cheong. 😋 scrape up the sides and eat the crunchy rice too!

Asked my friend what would he like for dinner before he flies to Beijing for 4 months and he said Bak kut teh. We decided to try this convenient bak kut teh store that has sprung up almost everywhere. Food was good but not great. Their bak kut teh was v rich w pork essence, but you do not taste the herbs other than pepper. Though that, the meat was very tender. Give and take I guess?

One of the iconic landmark along Balestier that's just right beside my house. The queue stretches all the way to the overhead bridge daily and is worse over the weekends. But somehow my family and I have timed it so well that we always manage to stroll right in with seats. I rmbed when I first went there as a kid, I would stare in awe at the photos of the celebrities that are plastered all over the walls. Dipping the you tiao into the peppery soup and letting the soggy you tiao explode in my mouth is ever so enjoyable. I also would scoop spoonfuls of preserved vegetable onto my rice and drench my rice w bak kut teh. Then continue by stuffing my face w the rice, preserved vege and soup combi. Oh the naiveness of childhood, before i realise how bad preserve vege is.. Don't you miss those days as a kid where you can eat all you want and heck abt how it makes you fat or harms your body? #hawkerpedia

As a student, my dad brought me to Pek Kio food centre every Saturday for lunch. And he always orders this and we'll share. He will be busy picking out yam from the rice for me because I love yam. After I started work, I got caught up w work and meeting w friends over the weekends. :/ Glad that I'm here w daddy again. Although this time round, I ordered. So, we actually don't eat intestines, but I am so used to my dad ordering everytime that I didn't realize the standard set came w intestines :x #hawkerpedia

This is just a bad representation of what your lunch should be after you exercise. I am just sacrificing my health to demonstrate this. Soft gooey rice that is slightly spicy, coupled with soft cabbage and braised pork...too bad the ngor hiang sold out but what can be more sinfully delightful than this?

The thunder tea looks really murky here. But really, full of anti oxidants! Strong matcha and mint flavours. I like how the ingredients are not overly oily, like how some thunder tea rice can be(defeating the whole purpose). Although I don't quite like the mock Ikan billis, I must say this was really therapeutic for my headache!

So the bf and I woke up early to go trekking. Then we came back to this that his dad bought from Adam road food centre. At least it was output then input.. Or so I hope! This was soooo good. They use basmati rice instead of normal rice. I haven't had the begedil for the longest time and it was so nostalgic when I ate it. Yum.

One of the other chicken rice that I grew up eating. The different between loy kee and boon tong kee is that the rice is oiler and the chicken is less fragrant. But one of their plus point is the ginger and the cabbage soup. Though the cabbage soup is a lot saltier nowadays. Overall, $7 per set is quite a good deal, though I would choose Boon tong kee's $4.80 set anytime over this.

Got this from 大巴窑剪刀剪咖喱饭. Rice and soft vege blanketed by a glistening layer of curry and sauce. (The curry actually looks redder in real life) Was having an internal debate when choosing the meat. Couldn't decide between the healthier braised chicken or the sinful sweet & sour pork. In the end the devil won. Glad I chose sweet and sour pork, curry rice with crispy sweet and sour pork. Yum

How can anyone not love this? Rice + black pork chop + tau pok + ngoh hiang + cabbage and topped with black sauce and curry. ☺️ total bliss.
