Cakes
[NEW] [City Hall] [Opened: Jul 2015] Week- old Kaiserhaus which is the agglomeration of Austria, Hungary, Northern Italy, Czech Republic and the Balkans had just opened at Capitol Theatre, opposite to Dazzling Cafe. That's a mouthful of countries man.
Malakoff vanilla cream on dark sponge cake which was a tad dry. The saving grace was the coffee soaked biscotti and the great service.
Location: Capitol Theatre 02-06/03-06 (Opp. Dazzling Cafe)
Opening hours: 10.30am - 12mn (Sun-Thu), 10.30am - 1am (Fri-Sat)
Pineapple, cranberry and walnut with the right sweetness level and moist texture.
Looking forward to try the single origin that @eatwithroy mentioned on my next visit!
They changed their bakes menu everyday so u might not get this awesome looking rainbow cheesecake haha! Didn't manage to get my paddle pop cheesecake and the price is pretty affordable too!
Rainbow cheesecake (SGD 3.90)
AEIOU CAFE - soft launch
Soft and fluffy cheesecake that doesn't crumble easily, sufficiently light for an after meal dessert. The cheesecake hints a tinge of avocado which is not too strong and is nicely plated. What amazes me is that the entire plate is chilled before serving and not just the cheesecake itself.
Apart from serving their usual traditional bakes, Gin thye had expanded to incorporate themselves into the modern society. A cafe seating of 20 pax and situated right along chinatown, this bakery aims to attract tourist and locals alike. Their menu is no longer restricted to just traditional pastries such as those used in weddings, but also include modern pastries such as this durian egg roll. They promised to rotate the flavour every week to cater to more customers. In fact, their durian scent and flavour I'd pretty intense and suits my taste buds. Hever the egg roll is pretty dry, probably it had been left in the refrigerator for days.
NEW cafe opened at Chinatown - Gin Thye had officially opened their first 20 seaters cafe, offering pastries of different flavours every week.
Flavour-of-the-week: Durian.
The Swiss roll is slightly dry, probably due to prolonged refrigeration but the fragrant and delicious durian puree made up for it.
Not my favourite taste for a lava cake. The misugaru which is a type of traditional korean grain reminds me of the lotus seed paste found in buns.
How about some tiramisu in a jar bottle. This tiramisu is on the lighter side. Would prefer more potent ladyfingers with a more distinct mascapone cheese.
Another 3 weeks old cafe in Tai Seng! Looks like Tai Seng is opening up more and more cafes! This lychee martini has a strong distinctive lychee taste in the whipped cream frosting above and between the layers. However the sponge cake layer is a bit on the dry side.
At the official opening of Geek Cafe with FREE coffee and cakes. Geek Cafe first opened its doors 4 months ago selling tech stuff and has converted their original tech shop into one that sells cakes and coffee today.
Collaborating with the online cake shop Cat and the Fiddle, this is the first physical shop that Cat and the Fiddle sells their cakes in, even though many cafes around singapore do get their cakes from their online store. This is also the only shop where you can get a sliced version of the cakes from Cat and the Fiddle since their physical bakery shop will be opened soon in a few weeks time that only provides whole cake takeaway.
Stay tuned for their xmas edition cakes which will launch in early December.
Cheesecake with a soft and moist texture that doesn't crumble easily when sliced. Cream cheese flavour is rich and flavourful. The base is made of melted butter cookies and a tad too sweet.
Crumpets - a mix between English muffin and sponge cake, with coconut flakes and gula melaka that oozes out. It's of the right texture, sweetness and not too dry even though it looks like the famous Hong Kong laopobing.
