Café Grubs
Despite this looking like your regular breakfast menu items, this is not ordinary at all. In fact, this has been one of my more enjoyable café breakfast plates for a very long time. Think everything homemade from English muffins, sausage patties, and tater tots to jam spread that will surely delight your tummy. What’s even amazing that all these cost at an affordable $15 nett, which is a far cry from your usual expensive breakfast set meal. South Union Park has done it once again; they have raised the bar so high that this will be my café breakfast benchmark moving forward.

My kind of comfort food—a flavourful tomato-based broth teeming with squid and prawns, thickened with a wobbly egg, with crunchy, buttery croutons thrown in for textural contrast. Available till 4pm.
A highly popular dish here—the chilli crab flavours were spot on, enlivened with aromatic lemongrass notes and tempered with gouda and mozzarella cheese. The omelette itself could be moister though.
Newly opened in Serene Centre, the store occupies a small space, with hole-in-the wall vibes. Seating is all outdoors, so it's more of a take-away concept rather than an actual store. Really wanted to try this because it was HOMEMADE nut butter, and I can't resist anything slathered with nut butter. Also saw interesting items like Salted Chocolate Rye Cookies which I definitely will be back to try, as well as their naturally leavened donuts and sourdough bread. Despite looking simple, the humble toast was generously slathered in nut butter. The ratio of bread to nut butter was 1:1, I'm not kidding! Expect to wait for about a few minutes for the friendly staff to make and serve you the food, as everything is prepared fresh upon order. I whipped out my computer to finish up some extra work, and when the staff served me my warm toast he actually asked me whether I needed the Wifi Password and filled me a glass of water. I think Singapore's cafe scene is truly expanding, and options are simply endless. For me - service is definitely one of my main deciding factors on whether I would go back to a cafe again. And Woodlands Sourdough has ticked all my good books in terms of service and good food! Best of all, it's so near school for me, that I can pop by anytime!
Pearl barley risotto, blue swimmer crab, kaisho seaweed, 63° egg and ponzu. Yet another dish that was pretty umami especially from the shredded crab meat — works great for those who dislike creamy and cheesy risotto dishes for the base feels pretty broth-like. The pearl barley risotto carries a bouncy texture; pretty fun to eat as well.
From their $19nett set lunch menu, but this is also available on their ala-carte menu as well.
The beef steak uses a flank cut, sous vide for six hours so it's pretty tender. Comes drizzled with a savoury sauce drizzled atop, while a little salt is sprinkled atop to help lift the taste of the meat even further. Mash was surprisingly smooth and creamy, while the mushroom at the side was rather reminiscent of enoki mushrooms texturally and taste-wise.
Tender chicken breast meat that isn't sous vide! Stuffed with prawn and asparagus, the chicken was surprisingly tasty and juicy. This dish has a good mix of greens and the barley risotto was perfect—with a little bite yet soft. Goes really well with the mushroom sauce. 😋
This restaurant is currently a secret little getaway for a good meal, but would be great for groups to catch up and events too.

Wished that the matcha and peppermint flavour is stronger
I made it a point to tell my friend that we should get anything with the Bacon Chop on their menu because I could have went immediately berserk if we were to miss it entirely (I just fell in love the first time I tried the single slab of it at Artichoke).
So here it is; apparently the only item on the menu with the bacon chop unless you are as crazy as me that you would order it on the side just because of a reluctant dining partner. English Muffins toasted and with bacon chop, egg mayo, arugula, tomato jam in the middle with purple potato crisps and truffle sauce at the side, this sounds like your "all-too-breakfasty" morning deal but it absolutely can be had for any occasion for it would be a rather heavy breakfast all by itself (not that I am complaining). Very rarely there would be a burger that works when combined together; usually it's more of the individual elements that shine but here everything works well by itself and works wonders altogether — the sweet tomato jam helps to cut the arugula's natural bitterness, while the creamy scrambled eggs feels buttery smooth within. The bacon chop is incredibly meaty and chunky (tip: add that smoked maple at the side while at it; it gives it yet another level of oomph!) that makes it as good as having a burger rather than being just a sandwich — all of these when the muffin is pretty light and fluffy without that carby feeling at all. Those purple potato crisps work great on their own; crispy and seasoned in salt but dip them into the truffle mayo which gives it an aromatic, earthy twist. A breakfast sandwich for breakfast, lunch or dinner — I wouldn't mind!
Enjoyed how well the generous portions of pulled duck went with the kale, walnuts and pappardelle. This dish is definitely good on its own, but pales in comparison when you have it together with the prawns and lamb shoulder, like a NCAA star entering the major league.
The Matcha Project opens its doors today at The Sail — a grab-and-go coffee and tea bar with a focus on their own matcha products including powders which are for retail.
Named "military" because of its colour (oh I dread ...), this is a concoction which sees Matcha, Milk and Chocolate sauce comes as one. I like how the soothing bitterness of matcha kind of compensates for the sweetness of the chocolate sauce at the start, though once everything starts fused up together the flavours start to get a little messy — more of an acquired taste I feel. If this sounds a little too gimmicky and as though it's just for the #gram, they do have regular hot and cold drinks with or without milk featuring Matcha, Genmaicha and Houjicha alongside espresso-based coffee as well.
This is my favourite cold brew in beer bottle ☄️
