Lovely french toast, crispy in the right areas even though I personally prefer thicker ones. I'm not a fan of the jam though, but with the ice cream, it's heavenly!
Made use of the non-peak hours to queue for the famed ice cream. One word to describe it: overrated. The honey's great, if there were more, but as good as it is, I don't think a cup of milk ice cream and slight drizzle of honey is wot $5.50/$5.90. Nope. Won't be visiting here anytime soon unless they increase the dosage of the honey.
This is so not worth the calories. Salted caramel torte that seemed to be missing the salt OR the caramel. Disappointing. The white chocolate lava cake, which was flowy, and chocolatey enough, was overly jelat that I was forcing myself to finish it. Maybe it's the white chocolate... If there is ever 'another time', I will definitely try other flavojrs or their mains.
In my opinion, this might be one of the best quiche I've ever eaten. It's soft and crispy in all the right places. I'm definitely going back to try more dishes!
Tonkatsu ramen with egg ($15 w/ gst). This bowl of ramen is really value-for-money! I was expecting a slightly higher price for a regular bowl of ramen! You can customize the ramen to your own liking but because I went there during the last order, I kinda ordered it in a rush. I was hoping for a springier noodles, but the soup was thick and flavorful (added fried garlic). There were many seasonings you could add too. But DO NOT ORDER THE EGG. More like hard boil egg instead of the typical runny egg insides you would expect. Basically, at Ajisen prices, expect a better meal here (than Ajisen).
Waffles with earl grey lavender soft serve with an extra serving of sea salt gula melaka. Waffles was perfect. One of the best I've ever eaten. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. The crisp sound as the knife cuts into the waffles makes your mouth water if the aroma from the freshly made waffles doesn't. Only thing is that the ice cream melts too quickly. Just after 5 min of trying to get the perfect picture, the ice cream on too of the waffles started to droop. Earl grey lavender was great, but might lean towards 'overly-sweet' (but still loved it!) while the sea salt gula melaka was maybe a tad too overpowering and sweet for my liking. The flavour was well-induced though, and my friends, one of whom might be biased towards anything sea salt-sugar flavored, loved it.
All of this including a missing French brioche toast cost over $70. The truffle fries was overly salty. The truffle oil was evenly spread, but the salt was not. The eggs Benedict with smoked salmon was a favourite among us. The egg was perfectly runny and the combination of the slightly soggy toast, mushrooms, (perfectly) poached egg was simply marvelous. The bacon Mac & cheese was just meh - too oily, too dry. Not much cheesy taste too. The mango sticky rice shake was unique and delicious! It was thick and not too overbearing. Definitely must try for a different experience. The marble chocolate shake was a disappointment. I'm not sure if we were unlucky, but it tasted like chocolate ice blended rather than a milkshake. I don't get the appeal of it despite so many great reviews of it. Meh.
$9.90 for this portion of churros is worth it. But I think they should be more well-known for their chocolate dip rather than the churros. The churros were slightly starchy but I loved that they were extremely crispy and didn't have an oily feeling to it despite being freshly fried. But then again, the last time I ate a good churros were a long long time ago so I had nothing in my memory to compare it with. And again, the crisp sound when I bite into the churros is so memorable that remembering it makes me feel like going back for more. There are three dips: milk, white and dark. It was difficult to choose my favourite as all three are finger-licking good. It took me so much to resist the temptation of licking the container clean. My only gripe was that the dark chocolate could be more bitter. Service wise, they could do with improvements to the number system. I had to be super alert because I was afraid that I would miss the staff calling out my number. This is worth a try, especially for chocolate lovers.
