Local Foods I Always Miss
🍴
Chewy and tasty abacus seeds, this is as authentic as it gets. It is extremely tedious to make and you need to work fast in hot yam dough. Ive seen my mom do it as a kid and I can appreciate the hard work they put in w every bite that I take. 😄

Hakka soon kuehs, unlike teochew soon kuehs have yam in their skin, making it more chewy 😋 🍴
The hakka beef balls were super tender! Dip it in the chilling sauce for a snack/side dish or add noodles for a main meal.

They are open by 8am but gets sold out by 1300, so go early to avoid disappointment!

The popiah I grew up with :) when I was in primary sch, I would have this for lunch or dinner. I love their crunchy bits inside, though I never figured out what it was.(it's not peanuts) They are usually sold out before 6pm and are closed on Fridays.
Singapore iconic breakfast dish. That I probably only eat once a year(occupational hazard). This is only $2.50! I love the slightly charred crispy sides!
The hokkien mee that I grew up with finally reopened! Just like what I remember it to be! Amazing chilli and noodles!
Thick fragrant broth that is not overly coconuty, which is the hallmark of a good laksa. Yum. 👍
It's always nice to indulge in chilli crab once in a while. To remind you why this is our nation's most iconic dish. The gravy is just nice spicy enough ^^ if I didn't rmb wrongly, weds is 1 for 1 crab day, if they still hold that promotion
Too sinfully delicious. Rice was fragrant. Curry chicken was tender and juicy. Achar and all was really delicious. I just couldn't stop....
Sambal and stingray. A combi that always works.
The most unhealthy "healthy" food. But it's so therapeutic and it's one of the food I miss when I go overseas.
My favourite chicken rice. What I always get when I have to pack dinner. I honestly think it's more worth it to da bao than to eat there. Only $4.80 for this! (Though it used to be $4.25) I love the pickled vege and meatball! Think they go very well with the fragrant rice and chicken ^^
What is more therapeutic than warm pork rib soup with tender pig trotter and tea? 😋
Forgot to take note of this Zi char store because I thought it would be just a normal pai gu wang. But boy was I wrong. It was the most tender and fragrant pai gu wang I ever had! (It's at the non kopitiam coffee shop)
