Cafe Hopping - West
Joining the eateries in Bukit Timah Plaza's new extension, Rise & Grind Coffee Co. offers both indoor and alfresco seating and serves coffee, brunch fare and a small selection of mains. With few cafes in this area, this is certainly a welcome addition. For brunch, go for the super photogenic and delightfully tasty Ocean's Thirteen ($17) — smoked salmon, poached eggs, asparagus, brioche toast, beetroot yogurt and yuzu hollandaise sauce. Massive trending points for having both beetroot and yuzu in one dish, and making it work well too! For lunch or dinner, go for the more substantial Shakshouka ($16) — lamb merguez sausage, baked egg in tomato sauce, feta cheese with wholemeal pita — or the Tom Yum Pasta ($16).
after half an hour of waiting for the hotcake, they serve me a garden of eden instead. damn, just how exactly do you eat a picturesque garden, you tell me? fluffy fluffy bed of maple syrup doused hotcake with nice crisp lining and zealous hills of ricotta cheese. spurting from the hotcake is a botanic landscape of freshest blackcurrants, medley of berries and litters of daintiest edible flowers, roasted pine nuts and a cloud of mascarpone. o careful the knife there, you are hurting the darling you know.
Tried their 2-in-1, which was a mix of cheesecake and thai milk tea. The thai milk tea flavour wasn't brought out very well, but thought it was refreshing for a change! Had their lattes as well, which was rather good. Love the decor the most though! It was quite spacious and had a mini garden in the open area behind the cafe too.
Because it was served warm, the zesty citrus flavours of the cake bloomed in full lushness. The lavender seemed happy to play a supporting role; lingering softly in the background.
Three creamy dishes, same same but different. • Beef Stroganoff: I expected this to come in a brown sauce instead of cream, but no matter, it was quite yummy anyway with fries on the side. The meat was too tough, though. • Double Fish: Like a gratin of sorts, with fillets of salmon and dory flanked by thinly sliced potatoes and baked in cream and cheese. The salmon was especially gorgeous – moist, pink, and not at all fishy. • Pork Julienne: Probably my favourite main of the day, with cubes of sautéed potatoes and toothsome pork imparting their smokiness to the cream sauce, making it even more flavourful.
A slice (smaller than this) costs $3.50 and a whole pie for $12. Mum got a whole pie and cut it into four. This picture is to also showcase the beautiful plate I got from Finland!
One of the best long black($5.50) I ever had! ☕️☕️#handsinframe
Giving thanks to a bunch of foodies I've met.
The food is really delicious and prices are affordable. This seafood aglio olio costs only $10. Also, they serve a bread basket before your food arrives!
Order it if you can take spicy food though. 🔥🔥Shiok!
I got a shock when this was placed at my table, my first reaction - "how am I gonna finish this?!". Well I did, with a little help from my sister. That aside, everything stacked in between from the caramelised onions to the rockets, beef, cheese & tomatoes went really well together. Worth my $12!
The Mu Platter consisted of poached eggs, spicy pork, sausages, streaky bacon, brioche, greens and garlic fries; while the Eggs Ben consisted of rocket salad, brioche and poached eggs. It was quite a huge portion and the poached eggs were well done and runny complemented with their sauce. Just thought that they added too much greens to the dishes! The waffles went well with the eggs though, which made a sumptuous brunch.
