Tokyo ❤️
Just looking back at the pic makes me salivate. We went to Tsukiji Market for lunch and randomly chose a stall but it tasted soooo good. Rice topped with generous amount of fresh and creamy unni goodness for 2500JPY (~30SGD), what more can I say? Yum.
Day trip to Kawagoe, where its famous for unagi. The queue here is lonnngg - we waited for 45mins. But I must say, it was really good! The broiled eel has slight crisp on the sides, but soft and sweet on the inside. Almost regretted that I didn't order the premium Unajyu, which comes with larger portion of unagi.
Sadaharu Aoki is famed for French desserts with japanese twist. If it's your first time, do try the specialty degustation menu that allows you to try the different desserts they have to offer. My personal favorite is the chocolate praline, Valencia orange and the strawberry one. Also a must order for me is the chocolate chaud for all chocolate lovers for thick, creamy hot chocolate.
Back in Japan after a good hiatus and sushi never tasted that good! 😁 despite having to queue 1 1/2 hours, everything was worth it once you savor each piece of sushi. Fresh sushi and value for money, it's my to-go place everytime I come to Tokyo and missing it everytime I'm back in Singapore. Go for the Shibuya branch for shorter queues.
My first time trying ricotta pancakes and although a tad little dry, love love the creamy texture if ricotta oozing out of the pancake. Paired with maple syrup and caramelized banana, one pancake immediately fills you up.
Tried a different unagi restaurant different from my usual haunt at Bincho, Ginza. Bincho specializes on "hitsumabushi" Nagoya style and very similar to the one served in Unagi Toku. Eel is thicker and juicy and of all the 3 ways of eating, I prefer the last step with soup added into it. A good alternative when I'm around Shibuya area and less queue, but still prefer the lightly crispy and flavorful barbecued sauce grilled unagi at Bincho.
Recently was introduced to "ochasuke", rice with soup, Japanese style and am loving it! Somehow the flavors blend well together with the soup and enhances the whole experience. Went to Komeraku, which specializes only on "ochasuke" and tried their salmon flakes and roe bowl with an additional topping of mentaiko, love how you can add in other toppings like crispy puffs and seaweed into the soup. Would definitely come back to try their other dishes as well!
Posh Tonkatsu at Times Square Shinjuku. The shrimp katsu (大海老) was lovely, if not a little pricey. The Tonkatsu crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside. Rice and miso soup not included in menu's price but can be topped up. Overall, a decent dining experience, the Tonkatsu did not disappoint but I still prefer the kurobuta pork cutlets from Maisen!
Finally got my hands on these cupcakes from NYC (famous from being featured in S&C). Despite being open for 3 months now, there's still a long queue to get to this bakery. Love the deco of te shop, with hues of pastels and an open kitchen where you can see them decorating the cupcakes. Tried their popular vanilla cupcake and carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. The icing wasn't too sweet and the cupcake was moist (even though I left it for a day). A little pricey (400yen for a cupcake) but definitely worth a try!
Japan is currently crazy over pancakes, almost every pancake shop has a long queue at any time if the day. Was lucky enough that the queue was short on a rainy day, and finally got to try this popular franchise from NYC. Pancakes were soft and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, topped with generous amount of maple sauce... Hmm... Definitely would come back to try their eggs Benedict too!
Soft fluffy pancakes with a slight crunchy crust, topped with fruits and maple syrup. Yums, portions are big, so best to share. Coconut cream that comes with it was also pretty interesting.
I can never get enough of Japanese beef! Thin slices of beef with just the right amount of marbling, medium rare, and the oh-melt-in-your-mouth taste, which goes really well with the sesame & ponzu sauce. They also serve pretty good udon (I like it chewy) to round up the meal.
