Tucked in a small corner at Pavilion, search for Cotton On and you’ll find this kiosk opposite it. Japanese shaved ice flavoured with matcha syrup and sweetened peanut sauce. We preferred sans peanut sauce as it overpowers the fragrance of matcha
An excellent way to cool off the sweltering tropical heat. I’m no kakigori expert but the ice here is very fine and not the typical coarseness you can find in ice kacang and ABC. Uji matcha is gao (rich) version of matcha and it comes with azuki beans and drizzled with uji matcha sauce. It is really popular so it may be hard to get a seat during peak periods.
This new entrant to Pavilion is no stranger to us all, especially dessert lovers. With the opening of its third outlet, Kakigori also gives us new, never-before-eaten delicacies to try! We’re talking about the Omugi Soup with Matcha Ice Cream (RM18). This hot zenzai (Japanese sweet soup) is a health-giving bowl of warm barley cooled with a dollop of matcha ice cream, served with osmanthus honey, matcha jelly and red beans. The elaborate combination strikes a delightfully harmonious balance between sweet and bitter, hot and cold. The other new item that’s most likely to lure shoppers to stop for sweets is the Yoyogi Custard Pudding (RM11), burnt caramel custard pudding that slides off the spoon for a perfectly dense and creamy treat.
Avg price per person: RM15
Utterly impressed by this new offering at Kakigori. I’ve never been a big fan of shaved ice desserts and it’s absolutely joy to find they’ve doubled the amount of non-kakigori Japanese sweets on the menu. This is one of them. Caramel puddings are extremely common in Japan (and Family Mart). The texture of this one is surprisingly dense and yet, not so that it stops you from wanting more. On top, the burnt caramel screams with sweet zest and just enough of a smoky finish for it to linger in the back of your tongue.
RM11 also makes it one of the cheaper and (in my opinion) better valued items.
Tiramisu as the go-to classic flavour with Black Forest as the modern flavour 😍 good for anyone be someone who’s sweet tooth or not!
