The most expensive, best food experience on this trip was right here at Ishida. You walk in, have an inkling of what to expect, and still it sweeps you off your feet.
There’s just something about watching the chef at work, from skillfully making sure each piece was even as we were sharing, to carefully searing and plating the beautifully marbled beef, watching the smoke dance right in front of you, with amazing smells and the glorious sounds of sizzling beef hitting your senses.
And it was sublime. Melt-in-the-mouth-tender. Served with pepper, two types of salt (seaweed-seasoned/regular), garlic chips, mustard, soy sauce and ponzu were provided as condiments - but salt, of course, is the best to savour its natural flavours.
Lunch set here costs 5800¥ for A4 (140g), 7800¥/ 8800¥ for A5 (130g/ 150g). Each set comes with salad, grilled seasonal vegetables, miso soup, rice (we topped up 500¥ for garlic fried rice, fried with the kobe beef fats/ crisp bits of meat!), sherbet and coffee/ tea; with an additional appetizer for the A5 lunch set.
If I ever get the chance to be back again, I’ll just go for the A4 instead because it’s good enough to me already (+less pricey, duh!😂) we preferred this as the flavours are actually more prominent possibly due to the lower marbling fat content..?? Anyhooooo was sad when it was all over, knowing I probably won’t have access to something this good at this value anytime soon🤷🏻♀️
