It seems that the folks at Hundred Acre Creamery has been rather busy opening up new locations for the year — a spot that we had been following for a while ever since the opening of their very first location at Sunset Way, Hundred Acre Creamery has now added a fourth location to its list of outlets across the island. Having just opened its location at Westgate not too long ago, the newest outlet of Hundred Acre Creamery is situated in the North; these folks had recently moved into the basement of Sembawang Shopping Centre taking over the former premises of the outlet of Tanjong Rhu Wanton Noodle that used to be there. The shop unit is one that is located within a kiosk situated in the middle of the shopping aisle near where the ASTONS Specialities outlet is. Considering so, the seating space at their Sembawang Shopping Centre location can be described as a little tight, though it does seem to be able to accommodate for a decent number of patrons — more so than that of their Tampines location. Much like the other locations that Hundred Acre Creamery runs all across the island, their main focus would be on their gelato offerings which are prominently displayed in the display chiller located at the front of the stall; patrons can choose to have their gelato to be served in cups, their Rosemary Cone, or with waffle. Beverages offered at Hundred Acre Creamery would include Vietnamese Coffee, Special Teas and a variety of floats — just to name a few.

Having tried a number of their offerings in the past, we found ourselves opting for the only variation of the waffle that we had yet to have tried so far — the Truffle Cheese Waffle. We had also opted to add a scoop of gelato; our choice was the Honey Chrysanthemum gelato. The Truffle Cheese Waffle is an item that we found to be best enjoyed whilst still hot and out of the waffle grill. Considering how the Truffle Cheese Waffle comes with melted cheese in the middle of the waffle embedded into the batter, the soft, melted cheese bears a stringy texture as one slices the waffle apart. It carries a suitably savoury note, whilst there is a very light inclusion of truffle oil that carried a soft whiff of truffle aroma that compliments the cheese without becoming the dominant flavour of the waffle. The waffle is otherwise still crisp on the exterior and plush inside; not too dense whilst carrying a buttermilk fragrance. That being said, leaving the waffles on the table for a while does result in the parts with the cheese embedded turning a little tough — still otherwise pretty delicious in its own right. Despite being a waffle of a savoury nature, it is interesting to note that the folks at Hundred Acre Creamery still went with drizzling the sides of the plate with golden syrup; does add a note of sweetness that gives the Truffle Cheese Waffle a bit of sweetness and savouriness in one go. The Honey Chrysanthemum gelato is said to come with elements such as cacao nibs — one could definitely identify the floral notes from the chrysanthemum here, whilst the honey does enhance those flavours with a slight hint of sweetness; the gelato being creamy and smooth with a slight crunch from the cacao nibs that add a bittersweetness for some contrast.

A visit to Hundred Acre Creamery isn’t considered complete for us if we don’t go for their Drip Coffee — there really isn’t many ice-cream / gelato parlours out there that would serve Vietnamese-style drip coffee and pairing the gelato with Vietnamese-style drip coffee here is a uniquely Hundred Acre Creamery experience. The Drip Coffee here is an especially punchy and strong cuppa with the addition of condensed milk giving the Drip Coffee a chocolate-y note alongside that roasty and robust finish that it carried. Having made visits and also subsequent revisits to Hundred Acre Creamery’s various locations, we do find our experience to be relatively consistent throughout all of their locations — their variety of gelato does offer a little bit of something for both more conventional and more adventurous tastebuds, while their waffles have been satisfying throughout our various visits thus far. Whilst they had since removed their small selection of Vietnamese desserts such as the Dalat in their current rendition of the menu, we still liked how we can have our Vietnamese-style Drip Coffee here — not just simply an item served for the novelty of it considering how their Vietnamese-style Drip Coffee has always been on-point and matches that of what some other Vietnamese dining establishments serve. The North has been known for being a little slow in seeing fancy F&B establishments sprouting up around the neighbourhood, but we are glad that Hundred Acre Creamery has set up shop here; a spot that we feel residents around the area would appreciate having to their convenience in addition to the other establishments that are also located in the neighbourhood.
