(Iced - $6.50) not that bad but the hojicha taste was not that strong but then still having chance to improve more as got milky texture and also quite sweet (slightly roasted tea taste).

A new coffee place near the Boon Keng area, I'm glad that we went to check this place out!

I loved their Iced Latte ($7), as it was a strong brew and was aromatic! Loved that it wasn't too milky either. The Iced Cuppa Joe ($9) was coffee with heavily frothed milk, which actually made the coffee creamier when mixed well. Quite an interesting coffee!

Their Lemon Tart ($6) was quite delicious as well, as it had the right amount of tartness and sweetness. Perfect with the cups of coffee!

It's quite a small space, so be prepared to do takeouts instead!

The Farrer Park area has been seeing quite a number of additions to the local cafe scene; while the area is probably best known for some established names such as that of Old Hen Coffee / Kitchen, Enchanted Cafe and Daizu Cafe — just to name a few, the neighbourhood had also seen the introduction of new establishments such as the likes of Poonsti, MADU The Bakery and Cafe Ren in recent times as well. Hey Slow Joe is one of the latest cafes to have move into the Farrer Park neighbourhood — though is also one that is located at a relatively further distance away from Farrer Park MRT Station along the North East Line, situated in the publicly accessible part of a new condominium development named The 1953 Condo at 1 Tessensohn Road just opposite the Singapore Khalsa Association. Despite taking up a rather small-sized shop space, we did find it surprising that Hey Slow Joe had managed to include a dine-in area comprising of two turnstile stools and one dining table that is meant for a group of four (4) pax within the premises — the interior is also decked in a style that can be said as minimalistic and clean, though with a touch of more futuristic elements considering how there is a consistent and tasteful use of metallic elements with some colour contrast (considering the use of splashes of blue) that stands out from the neural colours which are largely used throughout the space. Considering how Hey Slow Joe does seem to be a spot primarily about the specialty coffee offerings, Hey Slow Joe’s beverage menu mainly focuses on their espresso-based coffee offerings. That being said, they also do have a section of the menu named “Others” that consist of items such as Chai, Chocolate and Shu’s Brew (i.e. cold brew tea) for those who prefer non-coffee beverages as well. One thing that is especially worth the mention is that Hey Slow Joe actually does also serve up a variety of bakes to compliment their specialty coffee offerings — this would include items like the puff / pies as well as a line-up of muffins that are said to be baked in-house fresh daily; quite impressive given the small space that they occupy.

We weren’t initially intending to give their bakes a try, but thought that it would be great if we went for at least one item after we had learnt about how their bakes are actually served up freshly-baked in-house. There was a good variety of baked goods that Hey Slow Joe actually carries considering the size of the establishment — equally surprising would be how there was a decent variety of both savoury and sweet bakes that they have in stock. After contemplating on which one to go for for a while, we found ourselves settling for the Chocolate Hazelnut Praline Tart. On first look, the Chocolate Hazelnut Praline Tart was a pretty simple tart — there isn’t any other embellishments such as a meringue layer or berries that came atop; just simply a tart with what seems to be a cocoa-infused tart base that contained the Chocolate Hazelnut Praline ganache in the middle. Digging into the Chocolate Hazelnut Praline Tart straightaway, we found that the the Chocolate Hazelnut Praline Tart came with a pretty sturdy and well-made tart shell; the tart shell disintegrates neatly without crumbling apart when sliced apart using the disposable cutlery that we were provided with. In the middle, the tart was all Chocolate Hazelnut Praline ganache through and through. Despite the mention of the word “hazelnut” in its namesake, we did not really find any particularly prominent note of hazelnut in the ganache. That being said, it wasn’t to be said that the Chocolate Hazelnut Praline ganache wasn’t satisfying — we really enjoyed that smooth and rich chocolate ganache filling that was especially luxurious; all that without being overly sweet either. Overall, a great accompaniment to the White that we had opted for — the cuppa being one that is well-pulled, being smooth and creamy that came with a medium body with an earthy flavour profile great to start the day off with. Given all the effort behind their pastries and bakes as well as their expertise in their specialty coffee; Hey Slow Joe is definitely a spot that avid cafe-hoppers should not miss out on!
