Have been following the folks behind Generation Coffee ever since their days where they operate their single outlet at Tekka Centre — they have recently expanded their operations, with a second outlet located at 216 Bedok Food Centre and Market which is just a stone’s throw away from Bedok Mall, Bedok Bus Interchange, Bedok Bus Interchange and Heartbeat @ Bedok. Much like its original outlet in Tekka Centre, Generation Coffee stays true to much of its roots at its Bedok outlet — its distinct blue signboard is a stark contrast against the more traditional food stalls that are located around it. Featuring pretty much of the same menu at its newest outpost in Bedok as what they had been offering at Tekka Centre, Generation Coffee serves up beverages which are classified into three sections; Traditional, Specialty Coffee and Others. The Traditional section of the menu includes local beverages such as the different variations of Kopi and Teh, while the Specialty Coffee section features the espresso-based coffee that one would typically be able to find in a specialty coffee joint — think specialty coffee such as the Long Black, Flat White and even the Spanish Latte in this section. The Others section features a decent variety of beverages such as a Masala Chai Soy Latte, Chocolate, Babycinno and Matcha Latte. Unlike the outlet at Tekka Centre which seems to offer muffins sourced from a local baker for a light snack to go along with their coffee, the outlet at 216 Bedok Food Centre & Market only served up beverages during our day of visit.

Kopi is our constant order at Generation Coffee’s original outlet at Tekka Centre back in those days when the office was at Selegie; and this is how we found ourselves settling straight for the Kopi from the Traditional section of the menu during our visit to their new outlet at 216 Bedok Food Centre & Market. Similar to their original outlet at Tekka Centre, Generation Coffee serves up two different types of beans which they roast by themselves at their 216 Bedok Food Centre & Market; during the day our visit, they were serving up a single-origin Brazilian beans for their Specialty Coffee beverages, whilst the Traditional Kopi line-up are pulled using the Pioneer Blend which comprises of a blend of Brazilian Arabica beans and Vietnam Robusta beans. The Kopi sees the shot of espresso being extracted from the espresso machine — pretty much like what Kopi More from Golden Mile Food Centre does to their local Nanyang-style Kopi. The result is a silkier cuppa than what we would have usually expected from the same for a coffee stall in the coffeeshop / hawker centre — the difference for Generation Coffee’s variant carrying a lighter body akin to that of a Flat White / Latte from a specialty coffee joint, but a punchier finish that resembles that of Vietnamese coffee at the end. The splash of condensed milk helps add that bit of sweetness that it needs to balance out the punchy ending; something similar to that of a Spanish Latte that further elevates the experience.

Given how regular we have the Kopi from Generation Coffee at their Tekka Centre outlet previously, we would say that the Kopi from their 216 Bedok Food Centre & Market outlet is pretty consistent to their usual standard and quality of the Kopi from Tekka Centre. One thing we really enjoy about Generation Coffee’s Kopi is how they seemed to have given the local Nanyang Kopi their very own twist, developing a flavour that is truly unique to their own yet tuned towards that of the local clientele who prefer bolder notes for their coffee — not an easy feat to achieve there. It is interesting to see them grow since their very first outlet at Tekka Centre which had opened its doors in late 2020; something we would least expect them to do especially in this short span of time — definitely heartening to see how they have progressed with a loyal following and the ability to expand its operations. We wish the folks behind Generation Coffee all the best in what is to come for them, and congratulate them on the opening of their new digs at Bedok!
