Grew up eating the soup vermicelli version and haven’t had this in probably almost a decade? But my tastebuds have morphed and I love my fishball noodles with Mee pok, dry, spicy, and super vinegary. And Xin Lu gives me just that. The sauciness of the noodles is impeccable, but what was equally impressive was the fresh and bouncy fishballs.

Fish Ball is tangy

幼面的调味可口;鱼丸很Q,一口咬下去,鱼丸该有的味道统统涌现。

Excellent fishball noodles. The Mee Kia was cooked al dente and both the chilli sauce and the dipping chilli packed a lot of heat. Do add a spoonful or two of the soup before giving the noodles a good stir to coat every strand. Fishballs were not handmade but very bouncy nonetheless.

One of the better fishball noodles I’ve had this year!

Serving for over 50 years, this humble stall is known for their old-school, full flavoured rendition.
.
Among the most intense in taste, their soup is generously garnished with preserved mustard greens, lending a robust vegetal salty savoury flavour.
.
Their fish balls are bouncy with light tension, nicely sweet savoury in flavour.
.
The mee pok / wide flat egg noodles are well tossed with a slight springy chew, and pick up the savoury salty sweet spicy flavours of the gravy well.

At Mei Ling Market & Food Centre for breakfast and saw that they have 2 popular fishball noodles stalls. Went with Xin Lu Teochew Fishball Noodle this time round - it’s the one with the white sign board next to the escalator.

Queue moved pretty quickly, and aunty was very friendly! Can definitely understand why they are so popular, portions of both the noodles and the fishballs makes it very value. Flavour wise though, thought it was just average - we found the mee pok slightly doughy, and I’m personally not a fan of the saucy ketchup-based chilli mix.
