Fire Rice (Toa Payoh)

Fire Rice, nestled right in the heart of bustling Toa Payoh, is a relatively new joint bringing delicious egg fried rice to the heartlands. We’ve heard that their chain was started by a chef who previously worked at DTF!

Today, we had the 𝗕𝘂𝗱𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗹 ($𝟭𝟱, 𝗨.𝗣. $𝟭𝟴) which lets you zhng up your 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗲 & 𝗘𝗴𝗴 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗲 with a 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗣𝗲𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿/𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗽, 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗡𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀!

Without further ado we sank our teeth in the 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗲. The sambal flavours were very well integrated into the fried rice which packed a punch. However, perhaps the spiciness seemed a bit one dimensional. Their 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗽 was really tender, however much of its delicious flavour came from the five spice powders that were sprinkled on top. With that being said, we think they can be more generous with the powders.

Compared to its fiery sambal counterpart, the 𝗘𝗴𝗴 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗲 was much less heavy on the palate, so we found it a little plain to have on its own. However, you can pair it with their chilli (a pretty solid DTF dupe) and the savoury sides to complete your meal.

We also had their 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗴 and 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗡𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 which were fried to golden perfection and helped to make the meal more filling!

The sambal fried rice portion was huge but completely covered up by the equally huge chicken cutlet. Two people can share quite comfortably if you are small eaters ( sadly definitely not me 🤣). Price has increased slightly from when they first opened to $7.5, but given the portion it’s still reasonable. What was new this time was I tried the har jeong gai ( prawn paste chicken $1.8) which was really quite yummy leh. So my personal ranking for their meats is now 1)prawn paste chicken 2)chicken cutlet 3) pork chop. Now if i can just find a xs sized eater to eat it with me 🤣🤣🤣
