Has the heatwave been getting to you lately? Well, we might not be able to change the weather but we can most certainly indulge in some soft serve as a reprieve from the sweltering heat! Here are just some of the Burpple Team’s personal favourites.
For A Croissant Amazake Soft Serve
If you’re in town, swing by Le Matin Pâtisserie to treat your sweet tooth to their absolutely delightful Croissant Amazake Soft Serve! Ever the dessert innovators, their soft serve utilises the same fermentation process of Japanese Amazake, and is concocted with leftover croissants and trimmings.
This comes in four delicious variations—a Croissant Cone ($12) that lends a buttery fragrance to the sweet treat, a standard Takeaway Cup ($7) for those who want to savour the soft serve on its own, as an Affogato ($11) if you want a shot of espresso while you’re at it, and lastly served on a bed of pillowy Le Gaufres Beurre Noisette Brown Butter Waffles ($20) with croissant chips, roasted Koji, and a sprinkling of malt. Do note that the last option is only available on Wednesday to Sunday from 6 - 10 pm!
For Artisanal Soft Serve Flavours
Sunday Folks believes you can enjoy a little ‘Sunday’ everyday with a dose of delicious desserts and coffee. And, not just any desserts but handcrafted ones prepared with pride and love. Their confectionery offers artisanal soft serve flavours including the classic Sea Salt Gula Melaka, the decadent Dark Chocolate Ferrero, and the more ubiquitous Earl Grey Lavender; these come in a perfectly shaped spiral and are always freshly churned. Pair them with either their freshly baked waffles or have them as parfaits (at their ION outlet) and you’ll be in for a treat!
For $1 Soft Serve
Want soft serve that won’t set you back too much? Look no further than MIXUE! This famous Chinese dessert brand offers an inexpensive soft serve cone for just a dollar. Their first outlet is but a short walk from Clementi MRT station so if you’re a Westie, this is one good deal not to be missed. Aside from their Signature King Cone ($1), they’ve also got a variety of beverages (bubble tea, fruit tea, and milkshakes, you name it) available on their menu so why not grab a drink while you’re at it?
For Seasonal OTT Soft Serve
The hype surrounding Overrun’s over-the-top soft serve offerings never truly dies as they’re constantly churning (quite literally) out new flavours! In fact, you can expect a rotating menu of weekly specials. You just never know what you might find when you show up. Some past flavours include the Honeydew Sago, Milo Dinosaur, Triple Banana Biscoff, Durian Chendol, and Cotton Candy—the possibilities are simply endless.
For The Best Matcha Soft Serve
Matchaya was born after the owners took a trip to Japan and learnt about the traditions and cultures of ‘Chado’ (The Way of Tea). Taking a particular interest in Matcha, they sought various premium ingredients from different prefectures, and even approached tea farmers and masters directly. All this has influenced their dessert creations at Matchaya greatly! You’ll find that the quality of their Uji Matcha ($6.50) and Houjicha ($6.50) soft serve is unlike any other in Singapore.
