FOC PIM PAM
Refurbished for an urban chic look much inspired by the first FOC restaurant on Hong Kong Street, FOC PIM PAM has now reopened in the same central Orchard Road location with a line up of delicious new dishes to offer. Think more of their spunky, well-executed Spanish fare and imported canned seafood off the shelves.
Mui Kee
Having won us over with their Hong Kong-style congee at their Casa Verde pop-up, Mui Kee has found a permanent home here in Singapore. Yes, that means silky smooth congee all year long! Look forward to welcome the congee specialist to Shaw Centre this March 26. Apart from their signature congee, the 50-seater restaurant will also serve up noodles, cheong fun and in the evening, claypot dishes.
Southpaw
If you need another lunch contender in the Jalan Besar vicinity, Cavan Suite’s sushi and sake bar Southpaw is now in the running. The daytime menu now sees four new rice bowls priced from $17.90 each, with a bowl of miso soup on the side. Based on Burppler Hwans Lim’s stellar review of the value-for-money Sashimi Unajyu ($22.80), this is one Japanese lunch you’re going to enjoy. Also racking up popularity points is the Wagyu Beef Bowl ($18.90) with thin seared beef slices, runny egg and extra garlic chips for crunch.
GastroSmiths
If the Grilled Camembert Toast at this Tanjong Katong gem has your heart, like it does ours, you’ll want to make a trip for their new Grilled Saint Paulin Soft Toast ($9.50)! Made in the same vein as the former, the soft toast is laden with a thick, gooey layer of camembert and black pepper strawberry coulis to boot. Burppler xlilypad wasn’t disappointed by the rich and satisfying experience, adding that the dish packed punchy flavours.
Firebake
This East side bakehouse is back at it, churning out piping fresh items for both breakfast and all day sets. The new, reasonably priced Breakfast Set ($4.50) is the Firebake take on our local kopitiam breakfast — two half boiled eggs with housebaked milk bread, Belgian butter and a cup of kopi or teh. Take Burppler Veronica Phua’s advice and top up $1 for a side of kaya that’s painstakingly handmade in small batches. Head down to check out what else is new, including a Grilled Vegetable Sandwich ($19) for a meatless lunch option!
