What better way to celebrate Singapore than the nation's favourite pastime? We've rounded up the best National Day-inspired meals and treats for you to enjoy for takeaway, delivery and dine-in (when it's back)!
For Nasi Lemak Burgers
Remember the satisfying gourmet burgers with wallet-friendly prices from Burgs? In conjunction with the launch of their new online delivery setup and the nation's birthday, they've come up with a special limited-edition burger inspired by a dish dear to all our hearts. The Nasi Lemak Burger ($5.60) is a delightful interpretation with deep-fried turmeric chicken, cucumber slices, homemade sambal, ikan bilis and a whole fried egg. Lemak!
For Sweet Singapore Pudding
Possibly more so than their delish breads and cakes, we love Paris Baguette for their irresistible Royal Puddings! This celebratory month sees two not-to-be-missed additions ($4.80 each) - the Coconut Royal Pudding and Lychee Royal Pudding, filled with two times the burnt caramel that our community so adores. The Coconut Royal Pudding has a layer of flavourful coconut topped with gula melaka jelly for sweetness, while the latter is the perfect combi of tangy and sweet with silky raspberry jelly and smooth pudding.
For A Seafood Spectacular
Few places has more experience serving up truly Singaporean dishes than Red House Seafood, which has been in operation since 1976. This National Day, the seafood restaurant has launched three Dynamic Duos ($56 each) perfect for two or more! The Duos range from an ultimate surf and turf pairing with Superior Lobster & Seafood Pao Fan and Marmite Chicken, to a Signature Chilli Crab alongside super fragrant Braised Homemade Seafood Tofu. Do take note that the duos are only available on weekdays, at $56 each.
For Ethnic Specialities
Fullerton Hotel's Jade Restaurant has designed gorgeous heritage-inspired National Day takeaway menus so you can celebrate with your loved ones in the comfort of home for the entirety of August. Available as a la carte dishes or set menus, select from a variety of Chinese, Peranakan and Malay cuisine specialities from as low as $6.50! Creations include Pan-fried Chilli Crab Meat Bun ($6.50 each), Roasted Peking Duck ($53/half), and a National Day Cake made with salted caramel and banana compote and Valrhona chocolate chiffon ($69). Psst: Get 20% off their National Day Cake and selected takeaway dishes with a minimum order of $125 before 18 August.
For Singa-Pizzas
Singapore is a melting pot of cultures, but we say the real melting happening here is the yummy cheesy pizzas that showcase the best of Singapore's flavours. PizzaExpress is marking National Day with four exclusive specials: savour a burst of spice with the Beef Rendang Pizza; enjoy one of our favourite snacks with the Chicken Satay Pizza; satisfy your craving for aromatic Indian cuisine with the Tandoori Chicken Pizza, and finally a taste of local hawker food in the Laksa Pizza. Find this on all their platforms at $26 each!
For An Ode To Singaporean Breakfast
No celebration is complete without cake, right? Ah Mah has unveiled a nostalgia-evoking Kaya Castella Cake as a nod to our iconic breakfast of kopi, kaya toast and eggs. This fluffy sweet treat ($12.80) boasts dual layers of fragrant Pandan Castella Cake together with Ah Mah's Original Castella Cake, with a generous spread of kaya in between. Then, it's scored over the top with even more kaya and sprinkled with toasted coconut flakes - yum!
