Opened only till early afternoon, Mei Zhen sees a constant queue forming for their Hakka delicacies. The first time I came I had the yam abacus which I felt was only average.
This time the 四香金华猪肠粉, Chee cheong fun with toppings, caught my attention as I wanted to find out what toppings they had to offer. It felt like I was eating glutinous rice but the cheong fun version as the toppings were the ones that are usually found with glutinous rice; mushrooms, spring onions, dried shrimps and fried shallots. Surprisingly this savoury cheong fun was quite tasty, with such earthy umami flavours, and especially the fried shallots that were so fragrant and crispy! A mixture of sweet and soy sauce here was the watery type as compared to the usual thick liquid ones, but you should try it together with the chili sauce that adds a kick.
