This couldn’t be more wrong, as it offers much more than just that!
My favourite dish here is in fact the Modern Braised Meat Rice ($8.90). Yummy pork belly, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and an onsen egg top a bed of rice and are drenched with braised sauce.
The Signature Platter ($16.80) is quite peculiar. You’d typically expect pork charsiew to go with roasted pork belly in a typical roast meat restaurant, but instead, Koon has come up with an ideal-for-sharing platter of Chicken Charsiew and Fried Pork Belly.
The Handmade Mushroom Pau ($6.90) is one of their signatures, and a must-try dish. The buns themselves look like huge shiitake mushrooms. But do remember to eat them while they are hot as the buns can get soggy if you leave them to cool for too long.
We also tried the Stir-Fried Qing Long ($11.90), the Superior Chicken Stew with Fish Maw ($8.90) and the Classic Ba Kut Teh ($6.50).
Ended the meal with their Black Sesame Lava Cake w/ Glutinous Rice & Gelato ($11.90), another signature of Koon’s. This was rather unique for a dessert, and we thought that the 3 elements of the dessert blended together quite well.
I was genuinely surprised by the extensive variety of dishes they serve in “just a BKT place”.
Many thanks to @koonbkt for the invite!
