A little history... about 200,000 Samsui women were believed to have come to Singapore from China between 1934 and 1938, in search of construction and industrial jobs. In 1949, emigration from China was discontinued when it was declared illegal.

So back to my dish, instead of the usual whole platter of chicken, I opted for this claypot topped with samsui chicken. Tasted exactly the same as the platter except it was not as smooth. However the rice was soft and fragrant but no charred bits at the bottom. 🔹🔸
Whilst enjoying the chicken, it reminded me of these brave and hardworking women who came here and helped in the construction industry. A huge appreciation and respect for them.
