Miss K and I really enjoyed our omakase meal at Tanoshii, a Korean-Japanese-French fusion restaurant in a beautiful conserved shophouse in the Cairnhill area. I was therefore rather excited to check out their sister restaurant, Ureshii, at the Old Parliament House.
For lunch, Ureshii has a special set menu which is relatively more affordable as compared to their ala carte menu. This includes their signature yetnal tonkatsu or old-school pork cutlet which is made by pounding Hokkaido black pork sirloin and aging it with milk & various seasoning. It is then deep-fried and finally served with a special demigras sauce made by the owner-chef.
Korean tonkatsu is well known for its portions and Ureshii's is no exception. The black pork sirloin cutlet was also tender and juicy and the demigras sauce sweet and tangy. I will highly recommend pairing them with the freeflow kimchi and banchan that is served with it.
I did enjoy my meal but this is rather pricey for a set lunch and rather hard to stomach at nearly $35 after tax. There are also other options nearby which offer better value for money but if the boss is picking up the tab, you know where to go!
