We tried another of the naengmyeon dishes at Noodle Star K, as we wanted a cold bowl of noodles to cool off on a hot sunny afternoon! Today, we tried the variant with sweet potato noodles and the handmade noodles were very nice. The noodles had a starchy texture and were pretty chewy, which is exactly how I expected Korean cold noodles to taste like! That being said, you may have to chew your noodles for a bit before swallowing!
The soup was slightly sourish, containing a hint of vinegar and lime. This gave the soup a refreshing flavour, and it was pretty palatable as the sour flavour was not overpowering. The dish also included slices of crunchy pear and a hard-boiled egg. Regrettably though, the dish came with two slices of beef that were pretty tough and a little measely in our opinion.
The stall also serves kimchi and beansprouts for a side dish, and it also provides you with a cup (yes you read that right!) of beef bone soup to drink at the end of your meal. However, as the soup was a little beefy, we think it would be best to finish the beef soup in the middle of your meal and end your meal with the naengmyeon soup instead.
For $15.80++, the dish is a little pricey considering that the mainstay is some starchy noodles. Nonetheless, we think the dish is pretty authentic and is one of the better cold noodles in Singapore, because we have been to several Korean restaurants where the cold noodle soup was practically tasteless.
