Kogane Yama means ‘Golden Mountain’, the name reflects how the tendon bowl is filled with crispy golden pieces of tempura stacked up on rice like a mountain.
The shopfront always packed with long queue. When I came to visit during tea time, the restaurant almost empty, only 2 table occupied. I guess it’s only packed during lunch or dinner time.
The tempura was crunchy and well-fried, however the batter coating was thick & almost tasted plain.
There are four types of tendon to choose from: mixed bowl, prawn bowl, chicken bowl and vegetable bowl. You may customize the sauce spicyness (non spicy, level 1 to level 3). Mixed bowl comes with prawn, chicken, mushrooms, seaweed and vegetable tempura topped with fish roe.
The portion quite generous & I didn’t managed to finish the whole bowl. Overall the tendon experience was decent and what’s special at Kogane Yama is the customizable tendon & the sauce.
