Chef J’s BBQ Pork

$14.80 · 7 Reviews

Tasty and well marinated! It was neither too tough nor too soft. Had enough bite to it. Loved the sauce too, but one could do without it as it’s flavourful enough on its own. I’d order this again for sure.

Pork was relatively tender and easy to cut. It came with a sweet sauce, which complemented the meat! Would have preferred a little more char, wasn’t super impressed by this.

We were invited for a media tasting one fine evening and we left feeling satisfied and full of praise from the dishes that he has prepared. These were a showcase of his culinary journey and recipes that has been passed down from his family. It’s hard to choose a favourite but if I have to choose, I will go with the Chef J’s Signature Brandy White Fish Soup ($9.80); a bowl of collagen-rich soup that’s made from hours and hours of simmering the fish bones with no added milk/creamer into it. You can instantly feel a sense of warmth and comfort from the first slurp and each bowl comes with slices of white fish, cabbage and Shimeji mushrooms. Do make prior reservations for the soup, as it is limited to 20 portions a day.

Besides the soup, there are a variety of dishes that you can get from the menu such as Chef J’s BBQ Pork ($14.80), pork slices that has been grilled to charred and serve with a special sauce, Singapore Style Chill Prawns ($18.80) that’s cooked in a chilli crab sauce which you can add $2 for 4 mini mantous to dip the sauce in and Chef J’s Te Kar Bee Hoon ($12.80), a family recipe of braised pork leg wok-fried with rice vermicelli. To balance the meal, do consider the Ugly Cabbage ($9.80) for an excellent and addictive stir fry of cabbage in fish sauce and if you come in a group, there’s the highly recommended Whole Sea Bass ($31.80) that’s deep fried and served in a Thai-inspired Assam broth.

Don’t be deceived by the looks of the horfun. Once you start popping the horfun into your mouth that’s where u will realise how special and flavorful it is. I’ve honestly never tried a horfun this tasty before!

Will definitely be back for the pig trotters bee Hoon, silky egg horfun & chef J’s bbq pork another time! :)

Recommended by the owner, this meaty side is a must-order at this new modern Chinese bar within Kam Leng Hotel. Sweet and redolent of smokiness, the pork jowl slices are quite addictive and especially when had with a bit of tangy pickle!

Beautifully grilled jowl slices that are super tender. Love the pickles and roasted rice powder added to the Thai-style sweet dipping sauce. Best part? This is an eligible dish for 1-for-1 with #BurppleBeyond!
