I had the South China Sea (RM27) which consists of a grilled salmon, 63C sous vide egg, salsa and rosti. Despite hearing the rave reviews about this place, I felt that my order was rather underwhelming as the grilled salmon was a tad too dry. For drinks, I had my standard dose of flat white (RM12) which was pretty up to standard. However, I did enjoy the ambience and the retro decor of this cafe.
This happens to be a popular choice here at @merchantslane & I'm not surprised; must give my thumbs to the fabulous portion size & their salmon execution in general. It takes little effort to fall in love when all the structural elements from crispy hash, soft sous vide eggs & flaky salmon come so well together. If anything, I'd prefer them to eliminate or replace the canned fruits salsa in this dish.

Pan fried salmon with poached eggs and salsa dressing on a bed of crispy potato wrinkles - super fresh and tasty. But the Hong Kong style beef stew with carrots and potatoes topped with rice and bayam is still the winner! Nothing like a hearty meal to start the day!
Generous pieces of salmon with 2 poached eggs and fruits vege salad on top of potato hash browns. Potato was too salty and not very crunchy. However salmon tasted not bad with poached eggs and salad. The ambience of the cafe was nice in simple yet creative designs;)
When people heard of Petaling Street, they know it is the Chinatown in Malaysia that is also one of the tourism spots. Many tourists would go there to buy things at the affordable price but do you know in Petaling Street, you can actually find a good cafe that is newly opened but so hipster for Chinese traditional designs and cozy environment? YES! It's the Merchant's Lane! Even during the soft launch of this cafe, many people had started to hop to this cafe and reviews were pretty good! I have visited this place for thrice and no doubt, I really like it! I ordered this South China Sea with their signature Rose Honey Milk that served in this Chinese traditional cup which caught my attention that I couldn't resist to not order it. I will post up my 2nd & 3rd visit sooon! 😁
One of the signature dishes at this popular establishment.. The South China Sea which consist of the salmon being pan seared beautiful moist and tender.. The combination of salmon with the diced pineapple, mango, green and red bell beepers brings it a crunchy element and not to forget the crispy onion that gives it's some sweet crunchy taste to the salmon.. Pure deliciousness ! Not to forget their poached egg which is really nice and runny in the middle
