Candlenut definitely has a nice beautiful ambience, for its 1 Michelin Star.

The portions were also perfect for its status. However, for the price point, I don’t feel that it hit enough right points? .
🍴
Kueh Pie Tee- Pork belly was added to the stewed turnips for that extra oomph but it lacked the Unami that was supposed to be from the prawn broth.
.
🍴
Ngoh Hiang- minced pork, prawns and water chestnut. The pork was too minced for my liking, it was smooth (almost looked like what I get when I make emulsion sausage).
.
🍴
Chap chye- was quite good
.
🍴
Ayam Buah Keluak- definitely generous with the buah keluak and the chicken was amazingly tender.
.
🍴
Candlenut Classic chendol cream- chilled enough to be a pudding, topped with pandan jelly and gula melaka. This was pretty well executed. I liked the coconut cream. .
🍴
Maybe I went w expectations that were too high or maybe peranakan food should really be homely rather than overly classy.

The process of extracting the “black gold” is tedious making this dish so exquisite. |
The dish is done traditional style with local chicken, buah keluak sambal, lemongrass and kaffir lime leave. 😋

The buah keluah gives an acquired taste but still acceptable but i found the dish a tad salty and need to be accompanied with rice. The chicken is tender and goes well with the buah keluak sambal. |
