Mango Tart Rangoon Road does seem to be a neighbourhood that has quite a number of cafes operating around the immediate vicinity — this includes old-timers such as Old Hen Coffee Bar and established names such as Daizu Cafe that has been opened for quite a while, as well as other specialty coffeeshops such as SYIP and Old Hen Kitchen that are situated along the nearby Owen Road. Taking over the former premises of The Cave by Mosanco Enchanted Cafe is yet another establishment that is affiliated with Mosanco Enchanted Cafe — named Three Cheers, Three Cheers was previously in the dessert table business catering for parties and events. With a revamp being made to the space formerly occupied by the now-defunct The Cave by Mosanco Enchanted Cafe, the space now looks clean and fresh with a Japandi vibe that features a largely white interior decor with wooden furnishings and fittings around the counter and dining area — it also features some geometrical elements with the arches closer to the back of the store. Being home to their Three Cheers Patisserie arm, Three Cheers Serves up a good selection of desserts and bakes — think items such as the New York Cheesecake, Macarons and Cempedak Swiss Roll; there are no hot food items being listed on the menu at Three Cheers. The selection of beverages at Three Cheers includes specialty coffee, as well as alcoholic beverages such as Sapporo Beer — this would on top of the coffee-based and non-coffee based bottled cold brews that Mosanco Enchanted Cafe are known for.
Dropping by Three Cheers on a weekday evening, it is noted that there was a limited selection of cakes that were available in the display chiller at the counter as opposed the variety of desserts being listed on the menu. Having looked at the various items inside the display chiller, we found ourselves going for the Mango Tart which is described in the menu here to come with elements such as Glazed Mango Mousse with Mango Jelly & Chocolate Crumble. Slicing the tart to reveal the elements within, it is noted that within the glazed mango mousse is that mango jelly that is hidden well within the tart as the “surprise element” of the dessert. Felt that the Mango Tart was rather decently executed; the glazed mango mousse was pretty smooth and creamy — its role within the tart seemed to be that of an element that provided a neutral note to gel the mango jelly, chocolate crumble and the tart base altogether. The mango jelly came in a round a disc shape in the middle of the tart beneath the glazed mango mousse; this was the element that provided that hint of mango sweetness for the tart — that being said, the flavour of the mango jelly was a little too sweet and overly “fragrant” in our opinion; felt similar to that of those commercially-made mango jelly cups available in bundles in supermarkets. The mango jelly also had a consistency that was rather stiff compared to the mousse; the mango jelly disc having a tendency to just slide out of the tart as one attempts to pull a portion of it out using the fork. The tart base was well-made however; it held up to the elements above it well with a cookie-like consistency without being too crunchy — doesn’t crumble into a mess when one slices the tart apart, while the chocolate crumble provides a crunch and a bittersweet note to the Mango Tart for both a textural and flavours contrast.
With only two tables meant for 5 to 6 pax within the shop unit for dine-in, it is likely that patrons would probably have to resort to have their desserts and beverages at their outdoor dining space situated just by the aisles of the development if one intends to dine-in — there are three more tables that caters for two or four pax outdoors; this should not be too much of an issue however, since the neighbouring cafes do also cater for outdoor tables for dine-in considering the small shop space for the units here. Overall, based on what we have ordered, we felt that the quality of the bakes at Three Cheers can be considered as decent — these would probably work out well for the masses, though the more discerning taste buds would likely be able to pick on the minute details pertaining to the overall composition in terms of texture, as well as the quality of the ingredients used for their bakes (i.e. the element that went into the mango jelly for the Mango Tart for its flavour). It is difficult to go wrong with the bottled cold brews though — these cold brews by Mosanco Enchanted Cafe have been rather consistent in quality with interesting flavours to boast. With Old Hen Coffee Bar just right beside them (also the OGs when it comes to bottled cold brews infused with milk — they pretty much started that game here), we would probably be still more inclined to visit Old Hen Coffee Bar whenever we are around the Rangoon Road neighbourhood for coffee, though Three Cheers would likely be a spot that would appeal to hipsters looking for dainty cakes with a clean, minimalist environment to hang out.
