the yangnyeom chicken was pretty much the only thing we liked. it was well fried & most of the pieces were real juicy. however, the seasoning was sweet with no hint of spiciness at all so we’ll probably get the spicy yangnyeom instead next time.
the burger buns were pretty decent; like all potato buns, they were on the softer & fluffier side. however they tasted a bit dry? a little like bread that had been left out for a while.
for the bulgogi burger, we couldn’t really taste the bulgogi sauce as there was so much mayo that it overwhelmed everything else. & it was a real pity that the taste of the caramelized onions (which tasted really good on it own) was not strong enough to add another dimension of taste to the burger.
the chicky burger was basically unseasoned chicken coated with an unseasoned batter sandwiched in a burger without sauce. the saving grace was that the chicken meat was juicy but don’t put yourself through the torture pls.
one of the rare food trends which really lived up to its hype 💕💕💕 absolutely loved the chicken burger; the chicken was super juicy and tender with a slight hint of spiciness to it. paired with the spicy sauce and super soft brioche bun (which reminded me of the bun that old sch western stall serves but better), i just couldn’t stop taking bites after bites. the pickled cucumber also provided the burger with a refreshing bite & what made it better was that it didn’t taste as sour and sharp as normal pickles making it more acceptable for most ppl.
the fries, biscuit and mashed potato were as good as usual. in fact, i think that popeyes have one of the best fast food fries with how crispy and well seasoned it is. & their biscuit didn’t disappoint as usual. it was a light buttery smell & the top and bottom of the biscuit had a slight crunch to it which gave the biscuit more texture. and it just tasted so damn good when paired with the strawberry jam.
the tenders were not at their best tonight; albeit under seasoned, the remaining items were so good that it didn’t make our meal any less enjoyable.
def sth that we will go back for before they’re taken off the menu.
說真的完全好吃到, 每吃一口就會因為它是限定商品而感到難過。 完全是且吃且珍惜阿🤤🤤🤤
the ondeh ondeh ice cream managed to replicate the taste of the original dessert very well, however the flavor was on the milder side. when paired with the lava cookie, the buttery taste from the cookie and chocolate lava totally overwhelmed the ice cream making the whole dish super underwhelming.
the signature lava cookie was on the crumblier side, which was not my fave but for those who like crispy cookies (like tappy) you’ll enjoy it!
the curry fishball was so damn salty that we could barely taste any hint of curry. and the fishball just tasted like the softer version of dodo fried fish ball??? might as well i buy the raw ingredients and cook at home.
the pineapple bun was so dense and hard. and the top crust wasn’t crispy at all, so it just tasted like a subpar bread disguising itself as bo lo bao.
the famous egg tarts. all i can say is don’t bother and save yourself some grief and calories by getting taicheong instead. we tried both the puff and hoover tarts, and it was so lacking in taste. the crust of the tarts were not buttery enough and tasted v hard. esp the puff version, there was like only two layers of skin??? and while the egg filling was wobbly and pretty, it didn’t have the distinct eggy fragrance that a good egg tart shld have and just tasted so bland.
in short, don’t waste your time, money & calories. it’s such a tragedy that this is tainting our memories of hk food during a period where we can’t travel.
we had never really tried cappuccino before prior to this, but this tiny cup made us fall in love with it 🥰 definitely not a coffee connoisseur but we loved the smoothness of the coffee and the richness of the foam.
the brioche french toast was super soft, barely needing us to chew before it melts directly in our mouth. each slice of the toast was generously soaked with milk and cinnamon, and we were pretty impressed with how the toast managed to hold its shape as we had expected it to collapse with all the liquidy goodness within. the roasted pecans were also so so delightful. it added a much needed crunch to the otherwise “soft” dish. while tappy enjoyed this dish immensely, i felt that the extreme softness took away some of the much needed texture. nevertheless, it was still a very enjoyable dish!!
def a place we’ll visit again, rain or shine☀️☀️☀️
the chicken & waffles had to be my fave cafe dish ever!!!!!! the waffle was so soft and chewy (my fave kind ever), and i legit need every cafe to start serving this kind of waffles. the chicken was also very well seasoned; it was slightly salty and spicy on its own but balanced out really well with the slight sweetness of the waffle. & can i say that the maple butter was glorious? the addition of butter kinda added a little more weight (if it’s the right word?) to the maple syrup and i felt that it helped to add more dimension to the dish.
so we found a new bread that we‘re obsessed with & the obsession is so bad that we drove all the way down to tai seng just to get our hands on it.
the rainbow bread at jie traditional bakery had to be the best bread we had these days. it was so soft and fluffy, and i would assume that’s how it would feel like if we were to eat a cloud. also, i loved how it evoked those nostalgic memories of those breakfast i would have when i was a lot younger. we personally liked the bread at the kovan branch more than the one at tai seng which was weird cause we assumed that all the bread shld be baked by the main branch? somehow there’s a bit of crust remaining on the bread we got at tai seng so the sides felt a bit harder and chewier, BUT the middle portion was still so so soft and enjoyable. so i would probably bite off all the 4 corners first then enjoy the part in the middle.
i absolutely love pairing this bread with some @benandjerrysg. it’s almost as if i became my own ice cream man at home (who scooped a disgustingly excessive amount of ice cream on top of each bread)
the doria omurice tasted pretty ordinary. there wasn’t much taste in the rice and i felt like the cheese did little to elevate the instant curry taste.
the demiglace sauce omurice came with a tomato based rice with mushroom bits. the rice was pretty sour on its own but it helped to balance out the saltiness of the sauce (which was so salty that its probs how it feels like to drink sea water) when paired tgt. its sth that didn’t taste amazing, but then i wouldn’t mind having again? and the saving grace was that the pork cutlets were pretty well cooked; super crispy & juicy.
would personally recommend everyone to upgrade to the lava egg as the taste and texture of the egg was way better than the normal one, and it’s just so satisfying to see the egg wobble and break apart.
