I’ve enjoyed their other spa-food - but this one wasn’t good at all. Firstly, the egg was overdone - and secondly, the Katsu should have been placed on top of the egg - but before it wasn’t - it was all soggy. Disappointed...!!

I didn’t quite like it when I first had it - but some food just grows on you - and this is definitely one of them. The chilli was definitely the star of the fish - wasn’t too spicy and made the noodles so much more flavourful - an irresistible warm bowl of goodness - perfect when you want something not too heavy...!!

So off I went looking for the ramen store with the address provided. Ordered the Chashu Ramen + Ajitama Egg + Gyoza + Mugi Cha via the ordering kiosk at the entrance. Found my seat at the counter and it didn’t take too long before my food pager buzzed.

The Tonkotsu Broth was rich and flavourful - but could have been hotter - it was just lukewarm. The ramen noodles was alright but the biggest disappointment was the Chashu and the Ajitama Egg. Not that it tasted bad - but they could have done a better job to warm it to room temperature before serving it - it was still slightly chilled and was obvious that they had came out from the refrigerator not too long ago!

Would I come again - well, why not. While I was disappointed - it was still a decent bowl of ramen especially if they can get flavours of the broth right - after all, where can you find a decent bowl of non-foodcourt ramen for only $7.50 in Singapore...??

Since she has not tried Fook Kin - decided to bring her there. Ordered the Roast Paradise Rice Bowl with all 3 of their House Roast Specialties - Char askew, Siew Yoke and Dung Gui Duck - while my daughter had the Roast Delight Char Siew Noodle Bowl.

Am glad that my daughter liked it - should have asked her what she liked about it - but didn’t. In any case, she thinks that her brother will also enjoy this. Well, i guess I would have to come again - but this time with the entire family in tow...!! And when that happens - I’m going to order the duck separately cos I love duck but the flavour of the duck simply got lost in the sweetness of the char siew...and the saltiness of the Siew Yoke in this rice bowl.

Stopped by at this Yan Ji Seafood outlet at the newly revamped Funan Mall - had their lunch special costing $8 for a bowl of Dory Fish Soup, rice and a bottled water.

Three pieces of fish, three meat cubes, a tiny clams and 2 tomato wedges - kinda expensive don’t you think...?? I remember getting this same bowl with 2 prawns for the $8 meal at the Far East Outlet - granted that it didn’t come with a free bottled water. Oh well, I guess when such eatery goes a little upmarket - prices goes up and quantity do drop.

The last time I was there - I had their Applewood smoked bacon - and I couldn’t really taste the beef cos the saltiness of the bacon was a tad overpowering. So this time - I had their signature cheese burger - the ShackBurger - a double. So good - so full - and so expensive for this particular fast food meal...!!

What do you expect when supper is almost a whole meal - like this Harry’s Jazz Burger - Wagyu Beef Patty, Bacon, Double Cheese, Button Mushrooms, and Onion Jam...and that’s not all - it’s served with Coleslaw and some Spiced Fries!!

Honestly, I can never tell the difference between a wagyu beef patty and a normal beef patty - in any case, this wagyu patty was nicely grilled, well-seasoned, and moist ... and the sweetness from the onion jam made the burger even nicer - and balanced well with the saltiness of the bacon.... and all these paired with a full pint of Asahi Super Dry...!!

Needless to say, the wagyu strips was tender and flavourful - mixed that Sous Vide Egg into it for that added creaminess to the rice bowl - and those fragrant fried garlic chips really added flavour to it - and while I liked what I had - I think I still prefer the Unagi Don to the Wagyu Don!

So when I was invited for dinner at UYA - honestly I was not looking forward to it. Fortunately, they offer non-Unagi dishes and I was going to order one of those before my sis suggested that I try their Signature Unagi dish. And since I didn’t want to disappoint her - I ordered the Hitsumabushi - chopped up eel over rice - with 4 ways to eat it. Found out from my wife later that night that Hitsumabushi originated from Nagoya and this is how she would eat it back home.

And as instructed - I divided the rice bowl into 4 equal portions - I scooped the first portion into my bowl and ate it as it was.  The next portion was eaten with wasabi, nori and spring onions - the third portion, poured the dashi with some condiments into the bowl to make Ochazuke.  And finally - for the last portion - I could eat it however I wanted - I chose the Ochazuke way - cos I felt that it tasted best when eaten that way.

I enjoyed dinner. Since I’m not a fan of Unagi nor have I eaten lots of it - I can’t say I know what or how it should taste like - but this Unagi tasted really good - unlike those I’ve tasted before - it was tender and flavourful - although I would have preferred a little more char on it. I enjoyed sampling the different ways of eating it - and after this meal - I must confess that I may be becoming a fan of Unagi.
