Letโs take a minute to appreciate the crisp and beautiful crackling on this pork belly ๐. You can imagine how upset I was that a piece was missing when the plate was served ๐คฃ. Boonโs version is akin to a traditional Italian roast (Porchetta) - savoury and meltingly tender with a startlingly crispy skin. ๐๐๐
INDOCAFE does these little bite-sized canapรฉs brilliantly with a contrast of textures between their freshly made crispy โtop hatโ pastry cups and the wonderful moist filling of sweet jicama (turnips) having been steeped and stir-fried in excellent prawn and crab stock. A great choice for a main dish if youโre on a diet or just wish to eat light.
How can one not fall in love with this giant rainbow ๐ bowl of fresh, succulent and buttery ... wait for it ... salmon, swordfish, tuna, yellowtail, salmon belly, salmon roe, tamago, prawn, sea urchin, and one further seasonal fish ๐! The creamy and fragrant Uni and the Botanebi Prawn was worth the price of the bowl. ๐๐๐
Thick, creamy and in the colour of a flaming sunset, Grandmaโs Singapore laksa does not disappoint with its generous amount of ingredients and aromatic coconut-based curry soup ๐. The small bowl was filled with fried bean curd, boneless chicken thigh pieces, cockles, hard boiled egg, fish cake, shrimps and long beans ๐๐๐. โDietโ tip: switch the laksa noodles to rice vermicelli ๐คฃ
Hai Beng Cafe, having retained its antiquated exterior through the years, is located beside Penangโs famous Kuan Yin (Goddess of Mercy) Temple and is heralded to be the birth place of Lor Mee in Penang ๐ฒ. Their Hainan style lor mee comes with your choice of noodles, braised chicken, pork and eggs ๐ฅ, and bean sprouts, steeped in thickened dark broth, served with a generous amount of black vinegar and minced garlic. I was craving for it so badly after returning to Singapore. Can I get some recommendations for good Lor Mee in Singapore? ๐
Grandmaโs take on this classic comes with fresh shrimps ๐ค and is similar in style to a Thai omelette ๐ณ. Think soft, fluffy and eggy layers, hot and puffy from the wok, edged with golden and light-as-clouds crispy egg wisps. ๐๐
With all the tangy deliciousness of Assam Laksa and the creamy goodness of Curry Laksa, this has got to be my absolute favourite type of laksa ๐. What is your favourite type of laksa? Comment below ๐๐ป
The foie gras is always torched to perfection, buttery inside yet just caramelised on the outside, then nested on a petite pillow of rice and topped with a pinch of wasabi for that gentle heat that rounds off any piece of sushi ๐. ๐๐๐

Itโs pretty much an antioxidant, flavour-packed, energizing tea. I love the pretty ruby-red colour ๐ Colour like this in food, naturally, just makes me happy ๐. RM29.90 / S$10 per box of 9 tea sachets including flavours such as Lemongrass with Chamomile and Peppermint in the Sea (consisting of dried blue pea flower, rose and peppermint) @everywheres__
Unassuming hipster cafรฉ in Penang serving good coffee โ๏ธ. The Latte packs a full-on roasted espresso flavour with a creamy and pleasantly thick finish ๐๐. Woody and Buzz can be found at the tables towards the back.
A no frills place for old school charm and decent dim sum selected from giant steaming baskets ๐. The fixtures of old memorabilia on the walls and the flooring of small blue and white square tiles having survived the decades, make this place a real heritage in its own way โณ. It is not uncommon to see local patrons enjoying a late breakfast and chatting with friends over chinese tea. Dim Sum plates range between RM0.60 to RM2.50 / S$0.20 to S$0.83! ๐
